GA-890GPA-UD3H will NOT see any sata drives on Sata ports 4 & 5
    It's Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
I have tried different hard drives and dvd's in that row and those drives are never seen in windows.
I have no raid. It's all just sata.

I have the latest drivers and bios all up to date. I got the motherboard replaced today and still the same problem.
I have 5 hard drives and 2 DVDs. I plug anything into the 3rd column of SATA ports (SATA3_4 or SATA3_5) and they are not seen in windows.
The BIOS DOES see all 7 drives. It's just windows 7 that is not seeing them. It's a WD 1TB HD.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why these ports are not working? Thanks.

are you using ide in bios? have you tried with ahci?? and doing a reg tweak to enable ahci? maybe then windows will see your drives

Did you test this drive on the first few ports, to be sure it is not DOA?

Do you have those ports enabled in the BIOS?

The GA-890GPA-UD3H will NOT see any sata drives on Sata ports 4 & 5 if you have OnChip SATA Type set Native IDE (default) [Allows the SATA controller to operate in Native IDE mode].

For the SATA3_4 and SATA3_5 ports to function the OnChip SATA Type is set to RAID or AHCI. (see page 50 of the manual)

So I set the OnChip SATA Type is set to RAID or AHCI and windows will no longer boot. I just get a BSOD and it reboots. The BSOD reboots way to fast to see what it actually says. Any thoughts?

you have to tweak the registry to enable ahci because you have to install the drivers before you install the os, it should see them in ide anyway ide/sata you dont need ahci enabled

I have no raid. It's all just sata.
Hi Greenie17 I am sorry. I am a bit slow, please explain. We have established the drives are not in RAID. When you say just SATA? Do you mean SATA in IDE mode?, or SATA in AHCI mode?
    SATA controllers set to IDE
    Code:
    Integrated Peripherals
    OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
    OnChip SATA Type [Native IDE]
x OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type IDE
x OnChip SATA RAID5 Support Disabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl [Enabled]for GSATA White ports
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [IDE]for GSATA White ports
} USB Device Setting [Press Enter]
    Onboard LAN Function [Enabled]
    Onboard LAN Boot ROM [Disabled]
    } SMART LAN [Press Enter]
    Onboard Audio Function [Enabled]
    Onboard 1394 Function [Enabled]
    Onboard USB 3.0 Controller [Enabled]
    Onboard Serial Port 1 [3F8/IRQ4]
After this go into Windows 7 and start/search create and format disk partitions.
Partitions on basic disks added to the system do not appear in the Disk Management volume list view.

A basic disk's status is Not Initialized.

A basic or dynamic disk's status is Unreadable.

A dynamic disk's status is Foreign.

A dynamic disk's status is Online (Errors).

A dynamic disk's status is Offline or Missing.

A basic or dynamic volume's status is Failed.

A basic or dynamic volume's status is Unknown.

A dynamic volume's status is Data Incomplete.

Cannot manage striped volumes using Disk Management or DiskPart.

A dynamic volume's status is Healthy (At Risk).

Disk Management cannot start the Virtual Disk Service

Partitions on basic disks added to the system do not appear in the Disk Management volume list view.
Cause: Volumes on basic disks added to the system are not automatically mounted and assigned drive letters by default.

Dynamic disks appear as Foreign when they are added to the system. To use the volumes, you must import the Foreign disks and then bring the volumes Online.

Removable media devices (such as Zip or Jaz drives), and optical discs (such as CD-ROM or DVD-RAM) are always automatically mounted by the system.

Solution: Manually mount the basic volumes by assigning drive letters, or by creating mount points using Disk Management or the DiskPart or mountvol commands.

For more information about the DiskPart or mountvol commands, see the following:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=64110

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=64111

A basic disk's status is Not Initialized.
Cause: The disk does not contain a valid signature. After you install a new disk, the operating system must write a disk signature, the end of sector marker (also called signature word), and a master boot record or GUID partition table before you can create partitions on the disk. When you first start Disk Management after installing a new disk, a wizard appears that provides a list of the new disks detected by the operating system. If you cancel the wizard before the disk signature is written, the disk status remains Not Initialized.

Solution: Initialize the disk. The disk status briefly changes to Initializing and then Online status. For instructions describing how to initialize a disk, see Initialize New Disks.

For more information about disk status descriptions, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=64112.

how to enable ahci after installing win7

    1.Exit all Windows-based programs.
2.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3.If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesM sahci

5.In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7.On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
After this you’ll have to restart your computer, go to BIOS and enable AHCI. When you log in to Windows again, you’ll notice the installation of drivers for AHCI. Another restart will be required to finish the driver installation

you can always switch back to ide mode in bios later either way your drives will work

Thumbs up Re: GA-890GPA-UD3H will NOT see any sata drives on Sata ports 4 & 5

Thank you warren300! That last trick did it.
Kind of confusing how they have their MB and BIOS setup to handle that.
I appreciate all the quick and very helpful responses.
