    Ok, here's what I'm going to work with. From now on I will do a full Memtest (going to be fun for 8GB :P) and I'll still do the OCCT Linpack for stability and when I find a place I like, I'll do Prime95 just to make sure.

    I'd leave CPU Reference auto while trying to figure MCH Reference, unless you already found it better than auto.
    You might need more MCH Core and/or VTT for the higher FSB.

    Don't mind the 1:1 ratio since you aim for 500MHz FSB anyway. Memory performance will only get better.
    The numbers in memtest86+ are not much for benchmarking, try MaxxMEM² - PreView or Everest's memory benchmark, to compare memory performance.

    Alright, I'm still testing that template. Everything looks good in Memtest so far. I'm not so sure about 500MHz FSB. I've read that it can take a lot to get there and my CPU would either run 3.5GHz or 4GHz and I kind of like the 3.68 it's at now. I think if I can land around 475 or 480MHz FSB and lock down the RAM timings, I should be pretty good. I'm just getting tired of all this testing

    *sigh* Passed Memtest and failed OCCT Linpack. By the time this works, this computer will be too slow to get on the internet. I'm beyond annoyed. WTF ever happened to just setting FSB, Vcore and NB voltage? Time to go leech off of someone else's template...

    Forget it. Optimized defaults for tonight. Maybe if I get time tomorrow I will start from scratch again with the template lsdmeasap gave me. I'm just annoyed, frustrated and would like to be able to use my computer today...

    Thanks for the help lsdmeasap and Chike. I'll try to go through it again and re-read all the advice. There's enough in this thread to get where I would like to be.

    You can save BIOS profiles so you don't have so much hassle switching back and forth, you know this right? If not, this is how. On the MAIN page of the BIOS press F11 for save and F12 for load.

    This way you can save a stock profile and your overclock testing profiles, you can have up to 8. Be sure when loading a profile, before you save/apply that you go check the memory multiplier because sometimes it gets set to Auto which can be too high and not boot.

    Don't get frustrated, it just takes some time to tinker with things like this especially with 8GB. If you get tired of messing with it step away for a while and use a stock profile, then come back when you have time and try some more.

    Once you get at it again and if you don't get anywhere let me have your new testing settings and how it fails and I will try to help

    Thanks. I did know about saving profiles and man that's a nice feature.

    Well I stepped away for a while then the OC bug bit me again so I came back, optimized defaults and took a look at your template again. I went a bit higher with the volts and looser with the timings and enabled LLC. I hit 470MHz FSB. 480 error'd out in OCCT Linpack so I went back and bumped the MCH Ref up one and then OCCT Linpack froze so I'm a little stuck. I am quite happy that I got to 470 and it may be placebo but the startup programs seem to come up faster and more... all at once. I don't know. Below is what passed the OCCT Linpack hour-long test but when pushed to 480MHz FSB, fails. Just a wild guess but maybe it's the CPU volts?

    Ya, it is a super nice option! Be careful when you go to save, that you move down so you don't overwrite the saved ones that are already there.

    470 is a high FSB for a quad, you should be happy already! You need that extra 9 CPU multi and you would be all set, that's the hold up :)

    Yes, more Vcore that is not enough at all for that high of a FSB. I use 1.4+ for 450 FSB on some of my 775 Dual Cores, so you may just not be trying near enough.

    All your settings look pretty good, so I really think Vcore may be the problem here. I mean you scared of Vcore that is

    Give her some more, how's the load temps?

    Hehe :D Would it be anything else? I would like the chip to last me so I don't want to kill it with voltage. Is it about time to tighten down the RAM or should I go further?

    Bah, can't edit posts. I am scared of vcore... lol. The load temps don't necessarily look good. I don't think they went above 74C but summer is coming... I do plan to get a better CPU cooler and I am using Linpack so the temps I saw shouldn't be what I see when gaming and whatnot. What do you think about the chance on lowering MCH volts? It was pretty up there as well when testing, I think I saw it at 74C as well but it cools down really fast to about 24-30C. I might get one of those Prolimatech Megahalems in a week or two and at that time I'll pull off the northbridge heatsink and see what I could do with a better fan and see if I messed up the thermal compound at all.

    Should I keep going?
