    Cool --Help with Overclocking my EX58-UD3R -- i7 920 @ 2.67GHz???--

    Hi tweaktown :)
First off i need help getting my i7 920 to 4GHz possible 4.2GHz i have read many forums and tested there guides but with no success, i was refered on to tweaktown.

I'll start off with my pc hardware/specs....

    CPU: Intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
    Cooler: Zalman CNPS9900A
    MotherBoard: GA-EX58-UD3R (rev. 1.0)
    Bios: Version. F11
    Ram: 6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Platinum Series TR3X6G1333C9 [9.9.9.24] [1333MHz], 1.50v (ver 5.1)
    GPU: x2 Nvidia 9800GT Geforce 1G SLI.
    PSU: Bronet 600 Watt
HardDrive: Western Digital 500GB IDE 32MB Cache (tomorro adding 1T barracuder caviar black 62MB Cache 7200RPM)

My knowledge to overclocking wouldnt say begginer as i know my way around bios alot better now but as far as memory timings volts ect go im clueless, Anyway if there is a recomended guide that suits my pc specs please reply with help Or a link.

    Cheers Jack a.k.a. (Flamez)

try my guide for 3.8ghz,for 4ghz change the cpu voltge to 1.250000 and try with 1.320000 qpi voltage also set ram voltage to 1.66

alright thanks i'll give it a go :)

wait up!! so i just change my ram volts straight up to 1.66V after a 3.8Ghz Bclk?
Also with your PCI Frequency settings i noticed mine is set at 1.500 [Default] do i change this straight away to 100Mhz Or later? cause im running twin 9800GT's SLI
also is it ok to just leave the RAM timings and just change the volts?

excuse me????? theres no magic formula every board is different so youll have to tweak your voltages, i think ill find somone with a better attitude, ive been overclocking a long time i know what im talking about

im serious your guide isnt set up right in stages..

Basicly you say just go ahead and set vocre to 1.3v, QPi 1.3v Dram 1.66 put 180 in base clock restart bam overclocked... sorry to say but FAIL system failure is a result of your guide.

p.s you might want to add to your guide that you should Only INcrease your base clock and vcore volts up a little at a time.

yeah, did you follow everything in that guide? what chip do you have a C0 or D0? youll need more with a C0 chip, for me i can clock to 3.8ghz with 1.18750 cpu v and 1.30000 qpi v dram 1.66 all other voltages are untouched makesure you set your ram multiplier correctly to give you correct ram speed and set uncore freq to twice the ram multi then add one or two to it so 8xram multi will be 17 or 18 uncore freq

    Hello Jack,

please do not disrespect Warren, he gave you good advice.

You may be finding that there are also other limitations in your system.
Your power supply may not be able to deliver the power your overclocked CPU needs, your Zalman cooler may not be up to snuff (did you consider WC for 4.2 GHz...?), your CPU may be needs some different voltages, you may have some BIOS parameter set to some wrong value, etc....

Just in case, please follow the link below for recommended i7 OC reading material in the following thread:

    Thanks , Jure Z.
