They can come from the factory with bent/missing pins, I have received one directly from Taiwan with a messed up pin, saw it as soon as I opened the cover so it isn't always user damage.
Thankyou very much - you've been extremely helpful. The person who originally directed me to these forums also mentioned that one of the Gigabyte staff have an account on OCAU forums so I'll try PMing him and see if he replies (though it says he hasn't checked the forum in a month).

I will let you know when I hear back from the person I sent a PM to, they are usually around everyday or two here.

You are probably in luck since you do live so close to them, but whether they will RMA for you and believe that was not your damage is a whole different thing, hopefully they will work with you on this. I'll let you know what my contact says.

Another thing I don't understand is how a pin that far in could be damaged... as you mentioned it'd should be a pin on the edge that's damaged if it was my fault when putting the CPU on the socket? Surely if I were to damage that pin then I would've damaged others along the way in to it?
Sorry, I just saw your edit on this post.

Ya, I really think if it was caused by something you did it would either be on any of the edges, or there would be far more pins damaged around that since it is in the middle of there.

hah I recommended the exact same thing on OCAU.
S1366 is a too complex grid array to DIY fix, even one pin IMO. :)

Will should be a great help, GIGABYTE have got the most excellent product support in Australia.

Gigabyte's warranty was one of the reasons I chose them for both the mobo and graphics card in this build - I don't mind paying a bit extra for the 3 years and I didn't even realise they had offices in Melbourne either.

Yeah, they're my preferred vendor. The company i work for sell many of their mainstream motherboards, they're always interested in any discovered bugs or issues that I come across occupationally. :)
