For XP you must use a floppy to install drivers, and it can't be a USB Floppy either.

I'll post you some 3.3-3.4 settings here in one second, just wanted to post this becuase in my previous reply I missed you had posted a reply a page back.

Thanks on the Overclocking. Just one last question [I hope] on the install. On the floppy, I have to put the pre-install files AND the other files to install the driver with XP [re-install]? Those drivers were for the chip, I thought, not for the OS. So, only those in the 32 bit folder or all of them is the question - and if all of them, I don't see how to trigger the .exe file under DOS. Thanks much for the naive question - never did anything like this before...I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto.

You need to use either RAID or AHCI Drivers, whichever you are trying to use, from here (Pre-Install Drivers, per your OS x86/64)
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...gy+(Intel«+RST)

Direct links to the downloads you need

    x86
┬*32-bit Intel┬« RST Driver Files for F6 Install

    x64
┬*64-bit Intel┬« RST Driver Files for F6 Install

Then copy all the files on the floppy into a sub-directory named A:\$OEM$\TEXTMODE\ (which you have to create)

There is no EXE, only a few files as shown in this image

Then when installing the driver via F6, be sure you pick the correct one for your chipset (ICH10R/ICH10R DO) and needs (AHCI or RAID)

Nothing naive about your questions, we all have to learn sometime

Shouldn't I be using the files from Gigabyte for the JMicron Controller - as it is not an Intel Controller?!.....I also see all these slipstream methods on the internet.

Yes, sorry! I told Wazza above the same, then I replied to you about Intel myself!!! Doh!!

I mentioned that in a PM to you, but forgot.

You need to use Marvell pre-install drivers, since you are using the Marvell ports. Honestly, they are slower than the Intel ports anyway still due to poor drivers, so your best bet would be to put them on the Intel ports (SATA2_0 for a single drive) and use the Intel AHCI Driver as mentioned above.

Slipstream is not as easy as it sounds often, sometimes it works but other times you will spend hours messing around and still come up empty handed. That is something you can do later, then test in a virtual machine, that way next install you will have it handy.

For now I advise you simply install via the Intel ports and drivers, and if you can Vista or Windows 7 will be easier to install and not need a floppy. Actually with those you do not even have to load drivers either as Microsoft ones will work until you get in the OS then you can update if you want.

Hmmm....I guess I was/am confused. As far as I can tell, the JMicron JMB362 chip is for eSATA only [and RAID on them]. The Intel ICH10R controls 0-6 ports on the GA-X58A-UD7, the Marvell 9128 for 6 &7, and mysterychip 'Gigabyte SATA2' for 8 & 9. Now, wouldn't I have to use three AHCI drivers [one for each chip] if I wanted to make all ports AHCI enabled with Win XP Pro via a floppy F6 Repair Install?
