    Chike, I'll start over again - I don't have a .78 for MCH/CPU Ref. - it jumps .76 to .80 to .84 (vtt 1.20v) in BIOS. Yes .80 (vtt 1.20) = .863 (vtt 1.30v). One more click up is .84 (vtt 1.20v) = .903 (vtt 1.30v). I did try vtt 1.32 and 1.34 - I'll run through them again (it will take a little while). I'll report back if I have any issues. I'll take screen shots when I have failures. Don't give up on me I'm really trying. I'm on this RIG now - so the tweak is on. Thanks again

    Chike, I've run every possible CPU/MCH Reference voltage test (Prime95 Blend) with vtt at 1.30v and 1.32v. I haven't tested vtt 1.34 yet - I'll start it when I get off work. I've noticed a pattern - I have to run MCH Reference: (vtt 1.20v) .800=.876,(vtt 1.20v).840=916,(vtt 1.20v).880.=.956 to run any amount of time with Prime95 Blend (2 to 9 hrs.). I was wondering if I need to increase MCH Core voltage to 1.28 - since I seem to do better with higher MCH Reference voltages??? Core temps are running mid to high 50's. Do I dare go any higher with MCH Reference's ??? Just checking in - RIG has not stopped stressing since last post. I'll check back when I get off work. Thanks

    So are you stable with those settings or other tests fail? If they are stable no need to test others.
    Please post full settings.
    Mid 50c's for cores is nothing you got plenty to go.

    Chike, I've never got stable. I'm still stressing vtt 1.32v, CPU/MCH References. I found a routine that seems to keep me from missing any test. I take a vtt setting - then take a CPU Reference setting - I'll run through MCH Reference settings (vtt 1.20v) .740 through .880 with Prime95 Blend - with the vtt and CPU reference remaining the same. I found doing it this way keeps me from missing any settings. I got tired stressing Prime95 small and large FFT's. I would pass 3+ hrs. and 4+ hrs. of small and large FFT's and FAIL Prime95 Blend. If I ever get stable with P95 Blend I'll test those. UPS just delivered my 2/G.Skill F2-9600CL5D-4GBPI (8GB's) which makes it hard to keep stressing the current RAM I'm running. The only reason I bought this new RAM was to get off the 2.40B strap and move to the 2.66D. Anyway I'll continue to stress the current RAM I'm running. I should be moving up to vtt 1.34 by tomorrow if I don't get stable before then. Here's where I'm at with current BIOS template.

    What FFT sizes fail the blend?
    Maybe you should try more MCH Core, 8GB at 1080, it may need it.

    Chike, 30+ test failures - 23 were large FFT's. - 3 were small FFT's. Alot fail the first test "1024K" and I'd say maybe 10 failed at desktop or BSOD. I'll raise MCH Core to 1.28 and run some Reference voltages it runs well with. They were not stable but I was able to run 7 to 9 hours Prime95 Blend. If you want me to try some other MCH core setting please let me know. Thanks

    I think you should stick to one (.Ref) or the other, until you find a stable spot, then work on the other.

    Trying two at once may be why this is taking you so long, MCH Ref is the key, CPU Ref can be dialed in last and you will likely find .80 good to use.

    I dont want to suggest to anyone settings that will "burn" their pc ,
    but I have been running 1.42 v on the memory control hub for a long time(mch v)
    I know the intel recommendation is 1.20 max ,and for c2q cpu its 1.3625 v,but most of the action here is overclocking.
    Go back to optimised settings.. load and save them.Then manually enter the reference voltages that are shown for mch etc,ie dont leave them on auto.
    reboot again with those saved referenced voltages.Save the bios setting as "my base"or something like that.
    Then try and get your max speed ,while changing the 3 main voltages,cpu ,memory and memory control hub.
    The reference voltages will scale up and down as you change the main voltages.

    On air cooling for reasonable component life the do not exceed 3 main voltages are
    C2q ,core 2 quad cpu, 1.45V
    ddr2 ram 2.3v(it gets purple at 2,2 v and red at 2.3 v in bios)
    memory control hub(mch) 1.45V

    working on the cpu speed is king principle,followed by fsb speed,then followed by memory speed.
    I get 9.5gb/s approx memory read bandwidth
    10-11 gb/s memory copy and write bandwidth
    latency 55-60 ns.

    bear in mind the chipset limitations,your higher l2 cache and expensive ddr2 memory may get some nice results ,but we are still stuck on the intel 45 chipset and whatever it will do as our bottleneck.
    x 48 etc well hey thats old school now, there wont be anymore new super c2q/45 chipsets.
    Just go with your system will blow away or at least equal any dell/generic pc.

    My pc ,its 2 years old now approx(ok closer to 18 months) ,running with max overclock on air. It may last another year in the top 80-100% of systems.(maybe not).Right now I think it isnt obsolete :).
    Thats why I suggest the max vltages as listed above,

    mch should be from 1.26-1.28 and if you still not stable try to play with clock skew and cpu pll these settings will stable your overclock
    CPU VTT is the most important setting for stable overclocks. The CPU VTT Voltage sets the CPU termination voltage, allowing for a 1.55V maximum. Using this voltage in combination with the CPU VCore voltage setting can greatly enhance the system stability while overclocked. The system memory reference voltage is split between settings, the controller reference voltage and one option each for the two memory channels. In all cases, the base reference voltage can be set to a maximum of .03V over half of the set memory voltage. (Taken from HardOCP)
