Default I dont know if my memory is bad, my mobo, or my settings - OCZ3P1333LV6GK / ex58-ud5

    Hello Everyone,
    I just bought an ex58-ud5 bios (F12), with i7 920, geforce 9800gtx+, and 3x2gb ocz platinum OCZ3P1333LV6GK.

I can't figure what s the problem with my system. Triple channel doesn't work.

I set for 7-7-7-20(CAS, tRCD, tRP, tRAS), command rate of 2t, and 1.66 volts.

1 - first I tested each memory individually with memtest boot. all of them worked (i just ran the test for 15 minutes though - one pass)

2 - then i tested each slot individually and all of the slots worked . i tested only the white slots. (again I ran memtest for only 15 minutes - one pass)

3 - The problem is when I run triple channel. I always get errors from memtest. I manage to setup my bios so the memtest would run one pass with no errors, but then it would give me errors on the second pass. This is very frustrating.

I believe the problem is with my memories that I will have to Return. but the question is that they passed the memtest individually (for 15 min/one pass). What you guys think should be?

I believe that the mobo is ok though, because if the mobo was bad, the memory would not work at all. is that right???

    Thanks

Please grab a template from my signature and fill it out with your full current settings and then we can advise back.

    This is your memory correct?

    Hi necessario.

I have the EX58-UD5 (Rev 1.0) and the same 6GB Platinum 1333Mhz Kit of ram.

No matter the bios version, automatic settings don't work properly for me.
However, with some tweaking, your memory (provided its not faulting at all) can work flawlessly with your board

edit: EX58-UD5 and OCZ Platinum 1333 Bios setting advice

Please keep in mind that my ICH Core voltage needs raising above normal because I have 4 HDDs and a HD5870, you may not need to set it to that value (maybe a few values below it) to get your system stable. (also that not all parts work equally with bios configuraitons, you may need to find the correct values by stress testing, QPI/VTT mostly comes to mind)

Use this test methodology to determine perfect stability.

Try base settings; Manual timing, Manual Ram voltage, Manual QPI/VTT, manual IOH core, manual uncore, standard peformance enhance.
    Then memtest for addressing errors,

provided the addressing errors are now gone, goto windows and do further stability testing:
    3 32-Million Iteration SuperPi/HyperPi runs.
(if you get 0x0000005 app crashes, or Number_not_exact_in_round errors, its not stable yet, more tweaking is needed)

Provided it can run through 3 of those (they take approximately 25 minutes per 32M run)
the memory is already proving to be stable and healthy, finish off with a few hours of Prime 95 blend burn-in.

You will notice if you read the thread, that LSDmeasap got me to loosen my round trip latency advanced memory setting to 84.

It was after this and after setting the manual voltages advised that I got the best stability with my rig.

So, omit any unnecessary bios tweaks (like ICH core voltage setting) and with a little testing and fine tuning, provided the kit is not bad (my first OCZ platinum kit was bad from the get go, but my second one is rock solid, first one would hard restart the system when SuperPi'ing in triple channel) you should be able to get the rig setup right

Please keep in mind that my ICH Core ...

I changed my bios settings and I could run a mem test and the only problem that I had was 2 errors

    tst 8
    pass 0
    failing address 000415820fc - 1045.5MB
    failing address 0004158d4fc - 1045.5MB
    good ec7b880
    bad e3c7b8c0
    err-bits 000000040

I can see that this number 1045.5MB keeps popping up. Is that a sign of bad memory?
The good thing about it is that the test failed only once. Which means that I am getting close. Woohoo.

    Here are my settings.
BTW, thanks everyone for helping me out.

Hmm ,I dont have to set my tFAW value for my hardware,
Are you certain that 1.135 is the right amount for your QPI/VTT voltage?

forgive this basic question, are you populating all of the white slots? leaving the blue ones empty?

From your template, I really think you should not be getting address errors, if the kit is brand new, I suggest you get the reseller/resellers disty to swap it for you.

I never had addressing problems with this ram, even with my first bad kit, IIRC I did however discover some bios versions around the F5 version would not load memtest up at all.

With two pieces only, it doesn't fail right? only with three? if thats the case then you really should get the kit swapped as DOA.

edit: yeah, I think your QPI/VTT is too low.
1.135 is really really low, especially for a C0 Rev 920 CPU, but still for a D0.
1.25 - 1.35 is what LSDmeasap suggests, I think your QPI/VTT is undervolted.

Did you load optiomized defaults before setting everything manually?
Because you really need to do that, I think that you also need to raise your QPI/VTT a bit and find hte best suitable value between around 1.195v - 1.275v
