your better off using a 21x cpu multiplier and clocking to 3.2ghz 160x21,then set your ram to 1600mhz and use a 10x ram multi, set system performance enhance to standard, and cpu voltage to normal setting in voltages, what qpi v are you using??? try with 1.30000v and see how you get on,also set your uncore freq to 22x or 21x....are you using stock cooler?

    Hi Wazza,

Thanks for this, just given it a whirl and the system actually fully powers off mid boot now.

I guess I need to play with the qpi settings some more and try and find the sweet spot.

I've only got the standard cooler that comes with the i7 930

I've tried soo many combinations of setting's and just when I think we're on a winner it goes pop... strangly normally when I try to login.

Any and all help much appreciated.

    Cheers
    J.

just raise qpi voltage anything from 1.3 to 1.4v untill your stable,

I've taken it upto 1.355v on the QPI and it gets alot worse...

I've read you need to be cautious going above this so being weary of over powering it, I've gone to 1.195v and it gets alot further, so I'll creep up from there again....

Phew, never had such problems with a mobo and memory before !

    Thanks again

X58/i7 is a tricky beast sometimes, especially when you end up having to play with uncore and QPI/Vtt values more than others.

Keep at it and you will come out on top!

    Morning All,

Wrapped up at 4am leaving the box running a memory burn in test while I grabbed a snooze. To my amazement, it was still up and running when I woke up...

    HOWEVER.. not for long

I've just updated the Firmware on the LG Drive as the system crashed as I tried to access it. An LG release note says this update cures drives that magically disappear... so I am hoping that cure this particular problem.

One other oddity is that when Windows Server tries to shutdown, it looks ok for a bit and then seems to do nothing, before finally crashing out after about 10 mins... any clues there?

Anyway, back to the real Topic... Can anyone see room for improvement?

    Here are my current settings:-
    CPU CLK Ratio - x20
    CPU Freq - 3.2GHz
    Intel Turbo Boost - Enabled
    QPI CLK Ratio - Auto
    QPI LinkSpeed - 5.76GHz
Uncore CLK Ratio - x21 <---- Should this match CPU CLK Ratio ???
    BCLK Mhz - 160
    Performance Enhance - Standard
    XMP - Disabled
    Sys Mem Multiplier(SPD) - 10.0
    Mem Freq - 1600

    CAS - 8
    tRCD - 8
    tRP - 8
    tRAS - 24
    Cmd Rate - 1

    Volts:-
    Load Line - Disabled
    CPU Core - 1.16250v Normal
    QPI/vtt - 1.175v
    IOH - 1.100 Auto
    DRAM - 1.680v

    Health Report:-
    VCore - 1.156v
    DDR15v - 1.665v
    +5v - 5.026v

    Any more Ideas greatly appreciated..

    Thanks again All
    J.

Uncore clock should be twice your memory multi, or above by 1-2

Try LLC enabled, and QPI/Vtt 1.2-1.35

    Hiya Lsdmeasap,

The I finally had the system stable for 18 hours with the settings I had...

I've now made the adjustments that you've suggested and running another session of Prime95 against it, and it still looks stable.

Only thing I have noticed is the Core Temps a risen, peaking at 75c where as it was holding out at around 66c. I know in really life you're unlikely to hammer the CPU this hard so I'm guessing this is still within reasonable tolerance.

Where can I get a template and post it so others may learn from my experience?

Thanks again to everyone for your time, in trying to get a stock system running with no joy and much annoyance I've now got a sensibly tuned system and a huge grin :-)

    Cheers

    Jus.

Ahh well if you were stable already then no need to change anything, I was just suggesting in case you ran into issues.

Templates are linked in my signature, thanks for posting your stable settings for others!

Anytime, I am always here to help! Ya, sometimes it is easier to get a overclock stable than it is stock..... Seriously and I am not sure why this is either!

We'll have to call you the Oracle! Yeh strange regarding the stock vs overclock, but hey ho, live and learn huh...

I've always loved Gigabyte boards and was hugely depressed after several days of no joy thinking I'd have to RMA it... Glad I didn't now!!!

Man things thing flies, running Win2008 & Terminal Server with 5 clients and the CPU barely twitches above 1% while playing some video.

    Laters
    J.
