Default The new AMD CPUs Phenom II x6 do not work on GA-785GMT-USB3

I bought the board recently from NewEgg. Popped in the CPU and I am greeted with the flash screen that asks me to press various keys to perform various functions: BIOS, Qflash etc. I press the key to go into Qflash so that I could update the BIOS from the USB stick and nothing happens. Changed keyboard to no avail.

I don't have an older CPU that I can use to update the BIOS. Is there another way to get my board working with the new CPU or accomplish the BIOS update?

No other way that I know off. The PC basically needs the CPU to do anything, and if it doesn't work then nothing works. Try to borrow a friends' CPU or go to a local store and ask if they'll let you borrow a CPU to flash a BIOS. You can probably also send the board to GB tog et it flashed, but that's gonna take some time.

So wait a sec, you can get into the BIOS and or at least see the splash screen?

If so it may be working and you may just need to remove something causing it to freeze for now, such as all hard drives/cd drives, any external USB Devices, and then try a PS/2 Keyboard and see if you can enter the BIOS or Qflash

I thought the same thing. I removed everything from the board. Except for the CPU and the memory stick. I still cannot get it to go past the initial flash screen. I even tried different brand memory stick.

I may have to send it in to Gigabyte.

Rather than pressing the delete key to enter bios, have you tried pressing the End key?
    A. Before You Begin
    1. From GIGABYTE's website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your motherboard model.
    2. Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g. 785GMTB3.F1) to your floppy disk, USB flash drive, or hard drive. Note: The USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system.
    3. Restart the system. During the POST, press the End key to enter Q-Flash. Note: You can access Q-Flash by either pressing the End key during the POST or pressing the F8 key in BIOS Setup. However, if the BIOS update file is saved to a hard drive in RAID/AHCI mode or a hard drive attached to an independent IDE/SATA controller, use the End key during the POST to access Q-Flash.

Are you using a USB Keyboard or PS/2?

If you are using USB this may be the problem, use a PS/2 keyboard (Try a few in case one has issues) and remove all devices except memory and CPU/Heatsink, GFX Card. This means be sure all external USB Devices are also removed.

Unfortunately I already tried both type of keyboards. PS/2 and USB. No change.

I also tried pressing the End key and the delete key. Nothing happens on either of the keyboards with either of these keys or any other key.

And I have tried removing all the non-essential components. No go.

Sadly it appears that there is no way to update this board without an older CPU.

Ahh ok, just wanted to be sure you tried PS/2.

Sounds like you will need a older CPU then, odd to see it show the splash screen but get no further. Normally if the CPU is not comp[compatible it will either not boot, or work but partially function or be detected funky.

I can attest to it partially functioning. One time, out of the dozens of times I rebooted it, it went past the flash screen and showed me the regular BIOS screen without the splash. There it showed that it detected the memory correctly and that CPU type was unknown. And then it froze soon thereafter.

I have tried to reproduce that without success. Not that I would have been able to do anything useful at that point.
