Well I guess my chip doesn't really like the 21X Multiplier.

    Set it to 22x170
    Vcore at normal
    QPI at 1.355V in Bios
    RAM timing 9-9-9-26-2T

Gonna test these and I assume if I fail any test I just need to up Vcore and or QPI a notch and restest?

Thanks for your time and help.

if it fails try upping qpi a notch or two then re test if it boots into windows then its looking good

Well after 20 times runs in LinX it passed without errors in 1.5hrs with these settings, I would like to thank you wazza300 for your help, technically its not 3.8GHz but meh, better than stock.

Whats your opinion on the length of a stress test to deem a CPU OC "Stable"

I know prime95 24hr is ideal but whats your guys stance on some?

    Thanks again, almost there!

yh its not 3.8ghz exactly but i use 180x21 and you 180x22,i use that clock so i can use my ram at 1800mhz,when i clock higher i have to come off normal cpu voltage use 1.2+ v for 4ghz+ so 3.8 is the best bet imo, some say 12hour prime95 test its upto you id be happy with 2-4 hour,so whats your current cpu and qpi voltages?? you can set your ram command rate to 1T aswell

    170x22 3.7~GHz almost 3.8GHz.
    Vcore at normal setting
    QPI at 1.355V in Bios
    RAM timing 9-9-9-26-2T

Should I just leave my RAM timing or bring it down? heard it doesn't really help much except in benchmarks.

what are they rated at 9-9-9-24? if so try that, you should be able to set them to 1T and not 2T,1T is better, also have you tried with 171x22? that will give you a true 3.8ghz,keep all voltages the same and see how you get on thats if you feel upto re-testing

171x22 doesn't change from 170x22 in the BIOS unless Windows handles and sees it at 3.8GHz than the BIOS does. (No increase until you do 172x22, hits 3.8GHz at 173x22)

The RAM is rated at 1600MHz 7-8-7-20 1.65V Corsair XMS3 CMX6GX3M3C1600C7 (Bios sees autos it to 8-8-8-20)
Manually set it to 8-8-8-24-1T to see if my voltages can handle it, Gonna run a 2-3hr Prime95 and call it for a night.

Again thanks for all your help.

Back again, wish I was here for a different thing but yea......

    So settings: 170x22 ..... 3.7~GHz ish
    RAM timing 9-9-9-27-1T
VCore ...... Normal (1.275V in BIOS)
QPI/VTT ..... As of right now 1.375V in BIOS
    DRAM Voltage..... 1.66V

I ran Prime95 and about 2 hours into it, Worker 7 gave out and said it had a hardware failure.

Now I assume all I have to do is up the QPI/VTT a notch and retest but am I going too high? And how high can I really go? Past 1.400V~ in the BIOS?

BIOS numbers confuse me a little because it may say 1.4~ but it may be lower or something along those lines in Windows.

    Thanks

Edit: Upped IOC Core to 1.240V from 1.10V and ICH Core to 1.140V from 1.10V in the BIOS. Testing Prime95 again.

You will see a good difference between 999-26 and 787-20, once you are done testing CAS 8 I would go ahead with spec timings. Or do so now and skip over CAS 8

At 1700Mhz though you may not be able to run stock timings, or you may need 1.375-1.425 QPI/Vtt to do so, or a bit more ram voltage instead.

After much trial and error, I am back at square one.

But I have learned somethings about my chip, it doesn't like the 20X and 21X multipliers (21X only at stock) for getting it past 3.7~GHz.
Redid my Bios like in wazza300's link but a few changes.

    200x19 = 3.8GHz
    Uncore Frequency 17X
    Vcore 1.3500V
    QPI/VTT 1.355V
    DRAM 1.66V
    RAM timing 8-8-8-24-1

For my initial testing of these BIOS I ran Linx and all my cores hit 80C, 83C being maxed for 1st core. Obviously these are high temps but is it too high to continue and be happy with if I do find a stable OC?
