    Default GA-EX58-UD5 problem

First let me say hello all - I have found some interesting and very useful information on this site. Unfortunately my particular issue isn't posted (or I can't find it) so here we go.

My system is unstable, it has a hard time booting. Sometimes it hangs on the C1 error, other times I can get into the bios before it locks. Other times I can get memtest86+ v4.0 to load and start to run, but it will hard lock at random places in the scan. And finally I can make it into windows sometimes, but it is random as to how long it will take to hard lock.

I have tried some different bios (F13a, F13c, currently on F12)
I have tried 1,2,3 sticks on ram (G.Skill Pi Black 12800, in different white slots)

any ideas as to what could be causing this?

you mean youve tested each stick one at a time in each individual white slot one at a time??? did it boot into windows from each slot/stick?? or is it giving c1 error? c1 error is ram error, what qpi vtt and dram and cpu voltages are you using?

I tried each stick by itself in the first 2 white slots. I don't recall if I tried in the 3rd one or not. Also tried 2 sticks in the first 2 slots, and all 3 slots populated.

No matter the configuration of the modules it will randomly lock up during post, during memtest, during windows or just get stuck on C1. It really seems to act the same no matter the RAM configuration.

so you cant get to the bios screen? it should boot with just one stick of ram in any 3 of the white slots, its best to test this way to find out whether you have a dead ram module or faulty ram slot

I can get into the bios... but only sometimes. When I get there I can sometimes change settings and save them. Other times when I manage to get into the bios it will just lock up. Example of the problem

    boot 1: hangs on C1
boot 2: powers up for 2 seconds then restarts and loops the 2 second restart
    boot 3: hangs on C1
boot 4: make it into bios, change nothing and just restart
boot 5: go back into bios, try to change the system to RAID config, system locks and restarts
boot 6: makes it to windows then locks up
    boot 7: hangs on C1

this would be without changing any hardware. It is so random as to when the lock up happens - the only thing it does consistently is lock up lol

As for my volts - I have tried to manually set them to 1.3 on qpi and vcore and set the ram to 1.64. When I manage to do that, the problem still persists.

I will try the reseat when I get home - and I won't tighten the heatsink down too much. I do have one with a backplate so perhaps its just a little too tight?

I am also going to try another PSU and GPU

if its too tight it can cause memory problems, also look very carefully for any bent pins in the cpu socket, even slightly bent pin/pins will cause problems but be carefull and dont let the clamp close down when there no chip installed as it will have thermal paste on the underside of it and you dont want any of that in or on the pins

thanks for the tip - I will post how it goes. TBH I never would have thought an over tight block would cause memory issues. I really hope that will fix it.
