Default Need help with EP45-UD3LR and eSATA.

I'm a novice in the pc world and need some help to set the following up.
    I have Windows 7 x64 Pro, EP45-UD3LR, 4 G's RAM, E8400 CPU and a Western Digital Black 1 T. hard drive.
I'm trying to set up a second hard drive, same specs as the internal one, for use as an external drive for backups and file storage.
I can get this to work properly using USB connections, but it's too slow.
I can not get it to work in eSATA.
I see nothing in the BIOS about eSATA.
I tried a program called Hot Swap that has been recommended by some on the web. It allows you to safely disconnect from the drive. It didn't work.
I had to power up the external drive first then boot the pc, which defeats the purpose of having an on/off switch. Then the system saw the external drive.
But when I tried to disconnect it wouldn't. I wound up having to erase the whole external and reverted the internal to an image I took before starting this insanity.
Can somebody please tell me how to get eSATA to be recognized by my pc and be usable with out causing stability issues.
    Thanks.

The board does not support eSATA, so you will have to suffer with the slower transfer rate with usb or buy another internal hard drive and plug that directly into the board as a backup drive......

    JustRob,
    Thanks.
Do you know of any adapter cards that I could use as a bridge between eSATA and SATA on this board?

Not that I know of.........But I could be wrong there. I guess what you are wanting to do is plug and unplug that drive without the hassle of powering your machine off? All I can suggest is to buy a HDD Dock something like this http://www.thinkcomputers.org/old/in...reviews&id=710 I have one similar and I can tell you it was the best thing I ever bought, simply because you can hotswap hdd's without having to shut down the machine. But because your board doesn't support eSATA I'm pretty well sure your stuck with USB..........But thats ok because it is pretty fast considering.

    JustRob,
Thanks for your help. I already have one of those.

    Lsdmeasap,
    The first link might work.
I just emailed Startech to double check.
    Thanks.
