    Default E8400 Overclock to 4.00

    Hi, I just bought an E8400 that I have running stable at 4.005 (445X9) on a ga-ep45-ud3r with 1.30 vcore in the bios (cpu-z shows 1.28) and left the other 3 cpu settings to AUTO

    CPU Vcore….……….........................1.30V
    CPU Termination….........................Auto
    CPU PLL………………….......................Auto
    CPU Reference..............................Auto

    I was wondering if I could let them on auto or if I should set them manually to be sure that the mobo doesnt pump to much voltage ?

    Glad you asked!!!

    No, 2 of those go way to high in Auto at that FSB.

    Please set these, you will need to tinker with Vtt (CPU Term) until you find what your CPU needs for your overclock

    CPU Termination….........................1.225-1.28
    CPU PLL………………….......................1.51-58
    CPU Reference..............................Auto is fine

    Thanks, I was worried about that. Changed the settings to

    CPU Vcore….……….........................1.30V
    CPU Termination….........................1.22
    CPU PLL………………….......................1.50
    CPU Reference..............................Auto

    Running Prime right now, seems to be stable, going to test further when I get back from work.

    Ya, at 400+ FSB Vtt can often get put up to 1.6+ if left in Auto.

    You may need more than 1.22 Vtt, just keep under Vcore and you are good to go.

    Hi, Its me again, though my rig was stable but aint. After 1 hour of blend testing with prime, I start to get errors, always on one core first, but not always the same one. Im down to this...

    What is the FFT size that fail?
    BIOS version?
    MCH Reference and CPU Reference usually need to be tweaked with high FSB

    I suggest setting 1:1 FSB:DRAM
    My board can't wotk with Fsb near 445 no matter what, it is just that 440 is stable and 445 isn't. so I tried 470 FSB with Termination that made no difference whether 1.1 or 1.2. And it is better, even upto 490 no need to set more than 1.14 MCh core and Dram voltage of 1.70-1.80V upto 980-1020 and it has faster transfer speeds than 1068 probably. 1066 memory never worked for me it is somehow broken, just like 440-460 FSB is, it is just bad idea to use it. i would avoid it just in case.

    Not sure what is the ftt size, im guessing its the one right after 896K, gonna test again when I get back from work this afternoon.

    I just gave it a shot at 471 and It wont even boot. Need more time to tinker with the voltages but I think Id rather slow it down a bit with less voltage because im using this pc 24/7 . Ill gave it an other chance tonight, thanks.

    I'd leave Performance Enhance standard, then if FFT >- 128K try VTT with combinations of CPU & MCH references.
