^^^ if that were true it would display a red warning about overclock settings and reset to default if it was bad overclock settings, and pci-e freq shouldnt need altering really maybe 102-103 max, most likely voltages being out slightly or ram settings not quite correct

I have bought a new 5770 thinking my 4870 is shot but will not put it in untill i can get this board to single boot first time. Any ideas folks.......
Bad overclock is the culprit. The double boot thing is just what gigabyte boards DO when there's a bad overclock. The reason it works fine after that is because Giga then resets the faulty settings (whatever it thinks it might be) to default or automatic.

I would raise your PCIE speed to... say 105 or so. If that doesn't work I would check the north bridge voltage.

This from another forum. What do you think?
Not needed, but it might help a bit, try 101-103 and see if that helps.

If not as said above it is just your settings, are you adding any SB Voltages at all? If not try bumping those a little, if no luck please give me the full settings you are now trying.

    OR

Put in the 5770 and see if things are still the same in regards to GPU corruption issues.

Single boot is only going to happen at stock, or near stock, FSB. Overclocking will always get you double or triple boots after a certain freq, or FSB. This is normal, so the BIOS can verify your settings work, then apply.

Of course it is only normal if your settings are actually applied and defaults are not loaded which give you a red warning in the MIT section after this happens. Your settings will still be there, they will just not be used until you get them correct.

Please go ahead and give us your full specs and settings now too, template is in my signature. Could just be you are using incorrect settings or voltages for your hardware.

Please include memory link or model #

I may have stumbled upon something. Looking into double boot on all p35/p45 cross manufacturer. It seems they all double boot after a bios change or after having the power off. Now a thing i do and probablt isnt the norm is that i turn the mains power of at wall everytime im not using comp. Does that mean anything to you?

So do you every time you shut down your machine do you switch power off at the wall as well? If so that explains why you will get the double boot everytime..........

^^ +1 if this is the case, because your CMOS would always be cleared when shut off like that

you can sometimes corrupt the os or any downloading files too if you switch off directly at the wall, always power off pc with a short press of the pc power button or by clicking shut down from within windows and allow for the pc to shut down by itself

Mains goes off after prop shutdown. So far this seems to have cracked it , im so pleased thanks to everyone for their help. Thing is i've probably got to heavy an overclock now , i think i will tone down the voltages ect. do you think this a good idea?

You still really should not shut of direct power to the system, this will always drain your CMOS and cause problems.

Did you ever try your 5770 yet?

What overclock are you running? If you want to try lower voltages just do so in small steps one setting at a time testing as you go, don't do several at once, that way you know which setting is too low

My 5770 is going in v soon. What do you think of the vapor x choice anyway? Ive just ordered some arctic silver because OCCT crapped out with my cpu reading over 80 degrees. Still on 3.5Ghz with some voltages on auto now. I figured when i put my gpu in i will give my Zalman a good clean and put new paste on , that should keep the tempts down . Fingers crossed.
