Default Fan Speed Issues GA H55m-S2H

    My pc is running hot.
Seems that the case fan (3 pin) which is plugged into the mobo header (4 pin) is turning at 2/3 it's rated speed. With my Fluke multimeter, I measured the voltage at the fan's Molex connector, it's 8.66 volts.
The factory operating voltage for this particular fan is 10.2 -13.8v. and 1500 rpms
CPU Smart Fan is (disabled). A second identical fan was also tried with the same results.

It is my understanding that a 3 pin fan connected to a PWM header (4 pin) should run at 12v. which would be full speed. Is this right?

My case is a micro and only has one fan.
It seems to me that if Gigabyte is going to use PWM fan headers they should provide a way to control the speed. Neither EasyTune 6 or Speedfan could get the fan up to 1500 rpms.

if your plugging a 3pin fan into a 4pin pwm socket makesure you plug it in on the far left side of the socket, you can always use a 3pin to a four pin psu connector and plug it direct into the psu power supply(the same power connector your dvd drives use)

This is connected to SYS_FAN2 header correct? If so that is why, most all boards this connector only runs at half speed or so.

Plug your fan into a different header and you will be fine, it will run at 100% 12V

It's actually connected to SYS_FAN. Unfortunately, with this mobo there is only one system fan header and one CPU fan header.
A 3 pin fan connected to a PWM header (4 pin) should run at 12v.
And yes, it's connected to the left side of the header.

    Pin 2 12V yellow
    Pin 3 (tachometer) sense green
    Pin 4 (PWM) control blue

Ahh since you only have one SYS fan header, it is likely the same one as I mention on this board, only runs at partial speed.

You will need to use a different header if you have one, or get a fan controller.

You can only connect a 3 pin fan to a 4 pin header in one way, so I am sure you have it correct

SpeedFan is a program that must be configured to get control of the fans. Did you open the program and click on the info tab? Then click on the Get config tab. Then click on the URL (SpeedFan Configuration Manager) Do not use it here get it through your SpeedFan program. On this web page you must sign in or sign up. In order to go further. Then get a ticket number to add to the Get config java script. This must be done while the Get config java script is open. It will be highlighted in dark and you cut and paste it. The ticket number must be done through their web page. The ticket number is sent to your speedfan program info page using java script. Another words just typing it in the white space next to Ticket when the Get config script is open won't work. It is a little tricky to get this done right, but when you do you will be able to control your CPU and System fan with it.

Someone here may know of another program you can use to controll the fans.

you cant beat a nice cheap fan controller they cost pennies off ebay and work great,i control 3 of my case fans (scythe jyuni 1900rpm) there whisper quiet with a fan controller
this is the one i have ive seen them cheaper than this though the same model

Yeah I agree useing a 4 pin molex with a fan controller would allow the 12volt and another option for changing speeds, but some software will override the motherboard controllers and control it as well.

You could also by a cheap 3 pin splitter, to connect both fans to your CPU fan header, or a different one that works at full speed.

    Like this

    $0.79 + $5.15 Shipping
    3 pin Y adapter

Or buy on ebay for cheaper

    $1.20 + $2.49 shipping
3 Pin Fan Power Y Cable Splitter - eBay (item 290430353801 end time May-29-10 14:56:18 PDT)

    Or $3.99 free shipping
3-Pin Fan Y-Splitter Power Adapter Cable Doubler FREESH - eBay (item 390188671561 end time May-27-10 18:26:22 PDT)
