    Post first OC: EP45-UD3P/E8500(e0)/G.Skill 2x2 PC28500

    This will be my first OC so I consider myself a newbie. I have done some research over the past year but havent had time to actually OC until now. Here are the full specs of my system:

    Antec 1200
    E8500 (E0)
    MSI 8800GT
    Antec Earthwatt 500W
    G.Skill PC2 8500 2x2GB Kit
    EP45-UD3P rev 1.0 F7
    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
    Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal paste (for CPU and GPU)
    640GB WD Cavier Black
    160GB WD (kinda old..not sure what version it is)
    ASUS DVD/CD burner

    My goal is to get the CPU to 4Ghz. If you guys can have the patience with me in helping me learn and reaching my goal I will be very grateful. Also I am guessing I would probably want to shoot for 1:1 ram timings if that is best?

    If there is things I need to do,post, take pictures of, or read I will do so willingly. Please let me know if you need more information on my system or anything else that is required of me.

    Board is rev 1.0 and current bios is F7.

    You need to keep memory multiplier so the memory is near 1066, it may operate up to 1080 usually. If the memory have EPP(XMP) profile you may use it, or set the timings manually.
    For 400MHz FSB use 2.66D or 2.40B, 2.40B will usually work up to 450MHz FSB.
    Set Static tRead Value to 9 for both channels for now.

    You will need to increase Vcore, VTT (CPU Trmination), and MCH Core as you increase FSB.

    More CPU PLL will be needed for high CPU frequency.
    Typical ranges for your configuratios:
    VTT 1.2-1.32v (higher at high FSB)
    MCH Core 1.24-1.32v
    CPY PLL 1.55-1.6v

    Try 400MHz FSB with CPU Ratio 8, then increase CPU ratio up to 9, then increase FSB.

    Latest BIOS is F10, I suggest ou update to that before we get into things.

    1:1 memory is a thing of the past, no longer necessary for best performance.

    Once you have updated your BIOS and load/applied optimized please give us your full current settings in a template from my signature, then we can advise you on 4Ghz.

    Please pay close attention to the guide if you are using RAID, or you may corrupt your array

    Thanks for the reply and input!

    Before I actually start OC, have a few questions on the settings you gave me.

    1) For the system memory Mult, 2.40B is giving me 800MHz and 2.00D is giving me 667 Mhz (green numbers) instead of the stated in your input. Not sure if that is going to be a problem. Not sure why it is doing that.

    2) For the ranges such as the voltage control and advance timing control, do I want to start low on the range and work my way up till stable? I tried reading up on that info, but was still unclear about that topic.

    3) What list of suggested programs to view my settings (like coretemp and cpuz) and what suggested stress testers should I be using? I saw the topic with the full list, but didnt know if there was a prefered short list of what to use.

    Thanks again so much for spending time in helping me so far. You have been overly more help than any help site and guides I've read in the past.
