    Default 890 xa-ud3

I have recently purchased a 890XA-UD3, this is essentially the same mother board as my 790X-ud4p with the exceptions of native sata 3 and usb 3 ect.

The question I have is, I am unable to see the options in the bios anywhere for acc to unlock the dormant cores on my x2 555 cpu, I have pressed crt f1 and nothing new pops up. There is a new bios available for this board, but it does not appear to be a bin file type format. so I am wary to upgrade to this bios. is there anyone who cn confirm that the beta bios is correct for this board, i have a rev 1 board.

I suppose my question is, how do i enable the 3/4 cores using this board and according to the website this board also has auto unlocking abilities, does anyone know how to enable this feature as well?

Are you using the latest bios? The latest bios is F4E. It adds CPU core control option.
Note: When using Q-flash for BIOS update, please set “Keep DMI data” to Disable
You can download it below just click and scroll down. Please let us know how that goes.
    GA-890XA-UD3 (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - BIOS
After the bios update your Advanced BIOS Features should look something like this.
    Code:
    Advanced BIOS Features
    AMD C1E Support [Disabled]
    Virtualization [Disabled]
    AMD K8 Cool&Quiet control [Auto]
    CPU Unlock (Note) [Enabled]
CPU core Control [Manual or Auto]
x CPU core 2 (Note) Enabled
x CPU core 3 (Note) Enabled
}Hard Disk Boot Priority [Press Enter]
    First Boot Device [Floppy]
    Second Boot Device [Hard Disk]
    Third Boot Device [CDROM]
    Password Check [Setup]
    HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability [Disabled]
    Away Mode [Disabled]
    Full Screen LOGO Show [Enabled]
Backup BIOS Image to HDD [Disabled]
    Init Display First [PCI Slot]
It seems you wont need to change CPU Core 0 and CPU Core 1
    CPU Unlock (Note)
Allows you to determine whether unlock hidden CPU cores. (Default: Disabled)
    CPU core Control
Allows you to determine whether to manually enable/disable CPU Core 2 and Core 3. Manual allows the two items below to be configurable. Options are: Auto (default), Manual.
Auto Lets the BIOS to enable all CPU cores (number of cores available depends on the CPU being used).
Manual Allows you to individually enable/disable CPU Core 2 and Core 3.
    CPU core 2 (Note)
Enables or disables CPU Core 2. (Default: Enabled)
    CPU core 3 (Note)
Enables or disables CPU Core 3. (Default: Enabled)

Thanks for the bio update info, I stressed tested for 2 hours with no faults/ crashes ect.

I do have another question about the dual bios system, when the bios is updated does it perform the operation to both chips?

I am not exactly sure how the whole dual bios system works, I understand its a system to recover from a corrupted flash , just not sure how they interact with one another to recover from a bad flash ect.

I think it does when you Copy Main ROM Data to Backup, or Update Backup BIOS from Floppy

I just bought the rev 1 of this board and updated the BIOS to F4 F5 and F6a (all for rev 1) searching for a way to unlock cores in a Phenom II 555 BE CPU. All I see with F5 and F6a are the cores 0 and 1. They are enabled but I do not see any more cores. I sent this question to Gigabyte and they claim that is all I should see, but I don't believe it. I only see 2 cores in Task Manager and in CPUID Hardware Monitor, too.
I think there is something wrong with the core control or with my mobo.
Artdrivers example above shows core 2 and core 3.
Anyone here offer any help on this ?

The board also will not boot up past the splash screen without me pressing escape. It just stalls apparently while looking for IDE drives. (After I press escape it proceeds to boot up fine.) I reset the BIOS to defaults but that had no effect on this problem. Can anyone help with this one?

Your CPU may not unlock, not all of them do. You would have to test with a KNOWN unlockable CPU before you could be sure if you have a BIOS bug/issue or not.

Disable IDE in the BIOS if you are not using it. Be sure you are using Optimized defaults too as a starting point, not Fail Safe.

    Thanks for the reply ;^)
Your comments sound like the BIOS can analyze the cpu without rebooting and only display the core 0 and core 1 when the BIOS can't unlock the other cores?
I have unlocked cores with an ASUS 785 mobo and it requires a reboot to try to boot with the extra cores. I used a Phenom II 550 on the ASUS and it booted with 4 cores but could not run windows. But at least it tried. As a result I had some idea of what was happening.
With this GIGA board it doesn't even show me the cores 2 and 3 at all. Could that be right?
Thanks for the advice on the IDE issue, I will check it out.
