Default GA-P55A-UD3 Disk Score is Very Low

I just built a system with the following components:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3, Revision 1.0, BIOS=F4
Intel i5-750
Gigabyte HD4850 1GB GDDR3
OCZ Gold DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) OCZ3G1600LV6GK
Western Digital Caviar Green WD500AADS 500GB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

Everything went smoothly and as expected. I installed Windows 7 Pro X64, I ran the Windows Experience Index and got the following results:

Processor: 7.2
Memory (RAM): 7.2
Graphics: 7.3
Gaming Graphics: 7.3
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9

I was quite surprised at how low the primary hard disk score is. It is noticeable in the system performance, in fact my older system – a dual core Athlon with ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe is noticeably faster.

Is there a BIOS setting that may be incorrect? Will an updated BIOS correct this problem?

I see on Gigabyte’s website that this motherboard is now at revision 2.0, is this a known problem with revision 1.0?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Yes, that is normal for mechanical drives, especially the "Green" one you have.

You can test with Write back cache enabled/disabled in Device manager/properties/policies for the disk and see which is better, but if you want much higher than 5.9 you need RAID or SSD's
