it could be normal for the os to reserve 261mb of ram for the built in graphics, what brand of ram are you using? have you tried with just one stick at a time and see if it gives any strange readings? if its missing memory at all or reserving a big amount it can be the brand of ram and switching brands might give you the full amount as usable

Ok, got a reply on this tonight for you.

They said what i said previously, that Gigabyte BIOSes do not need this as it is already automatically done.

Here is there reply and testing info

GBT BIOS donít need any remapping setup item. We have always done it automatically.

After testing, H55M-UD2H can fully detected 4GB memory without problem.

    Test configurations:
    BIOS: F9
    CPU: 530
    Memory: Gskill DDR3 2GB *2 pcs
    OS: Server 2008 64bit

I have asked them what is causing your issue, maybe they will look in this thread and see what it is?

Have you tested with onboard GFX disabled? Since it seems that is where your memory is going, this would probably fix the issue.

I just thought of something, you don't have the following box checked that is circled below in MSCONFIG do you?

If you have this box checked please Uncheck it and reboot and see if your memory is properly displayed

Sorry, I got the PM notification but no notifications on this thread despite being subscribed and having instant notification set for default.

On the last point, no, that's not checked. I looked at that early on, since that's one of a handful of things that has helped people with this in years past.

It's surprising that they sent you a screen shot. I see they're testing with F9--I have F8, and the one improvement listed for F9 is N/A. Surely F9 isn't required, is it? I think they would have mentioned that. Are they in the habit of not releasing a full revision list?

Unfortunately, I don't actually have a PCI-E card to test with onboard graphics disabled, but based on the other thread above, it seems like it wouldn't matter. The reserved memory may reduce somewhat, however.

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL, and I don't recall anything out of the ordinary when just one or the other was used. I see they're using G.Skill too.
    OS: Server 2008 R2 x64. They're using 2008.

Well we are doing some site/forum updating so subscribed threads might be disabled, so that could be why and what made me think to PM you.

I doubt F9 is required or anything like that, but I would go ahead and flash to it anyway since it is the latest BIOS.

Yes, they are in that habit. The engineers do not speak English and feel their translations might not come across correctly, I try to always tell them to post more change logs anyway even if in Chinese and we could translate, but the never will.

I would flash your BIOS, and then see if you can borrow or find a PCIE card to test with, if not see if you can dig up an old PCI card somewhere, as I think that might be what is using some of this memory.

Not sure if they were using the onboard or a PCIE card, and I can't find out for 2 weeks either as my contact is out of the office until after that.

    Hey guys,

I'm building a PC for a friend, and I'm getting the same problem, Windows 7 64 Bit home premium shows 3.75gb of ram available. I've checked the graphics settings and they are set to 64mb, if i change it to 128mb the 3.75 goes down to 3.68, so I'm assuming it's not that.

I'm using 4gb of Patriot ram, and I'm thinking it has to do with the following, 1 stick is 1333mhz the other is 1600mhz. I asked for 2 1333mhz sticks, but the guy must have mucked up and given me a 1600 for one of them. I didn't realise until i was already home, but with past experience with PCs, i assumed that this should not make a difference as the motherboard will simply just run that 1600mhz stick at 1333mhz instead. I'm assuming it is as i had done the same in the past on older machines when ram died, i'd just take a stick from another computer, but i thought i'd post up here in case maybe this motherboard just has problems with it?

Another thing to note, CPU-Z shows it has 4096mb of ram, its only in Windows System Properties it shows 3.75.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Jarrod

Edit: If it helps more, everything else that is installed is...

    Intel I5 650
    Seagate 1tb sata hdd
    Pioneer 218l
450w PSU (stock PSU for the Thermaltake V3)
    A - Power Card Reader

    and the Patriot 1333 DDR3 and 1600 DDR3 Ram

i dont know how those chips work, look in task manager/system resources it will tell you if its reserving any ram for other hardware

wazza, it's definitely hardware reserved -- see my post from late May. The question is why and whether anyone with this board, and using integrated graphics, also sees this issue. I just noticed that Gigabyte never actually said whether they were using integrated graphics.

ruggj, note that Windows shows 4GB too -- but then is more detailed in saying that only 3.75GB is available. CPU-Z just doesn't take it that far. Some others do, such as Everest:
    System Memory: 3835 MB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)

I'm finally going to be in the same place as my machine today, so will be installing F9 BIOS (which do you have?), and maybe even checking to see if my RAM matches (it really should, since I bought them at the same place in the same order). I'd be shocked out of my mind if I missed that before, but I agree that it shouldn't matter.
