Could be that Award doesn't want to assign the man-hours to add IOMMU support even if Gigabyte in fact has asked them for assistance. I think that of all the 890FX board manufacturers only Gigabyte uses Award and all the rest AMI. And MSI btw is abandoning legacy BIOS (AMI) altogether soon for UEFI - at least for its upmarket m/b's.
So maybe it's really better for you to sell off your GB m/b and buy an Asus or MSI one ?
    ...
Lsdmeasap gave us the good news saying that they are working on the IOMMU BIOS implementation and should be present within a few weeks. I just ordered a Nokia N900 which should keep me entertained for the weeks while Gigabyte's BIOS team is working on it. :P

And, yeah we are all suppose to switch over to EFI BIOSes, my Itanium machine has a EFI BIOS and IIRC all Apple computers had EFI for awhile now. The EFI BIOS is very powerful and very flexible, a bit slow on bootup, but then again that Itanium machine is a server. The EFI shell is very very powerful, and even has vfat fs support for USB disks.

OK here is the info. The Asus M4A89TD Pro/USB3 has IOMMU and it works!

Thanks for the confirmation. Good to see people actually using it and having it work for them. I'm still keeping my options open. If in the next month or two I don't see any option except for asus, I'll get an asus board. Otherwise, I'd like to get the Gigabyte board that has the multiple pci-e x16 slots & requires an EATX case.

    The Gigabyte board required EATX?

Damn, I don't even know if that will fit in my case (Lian Li PC60)

lt.cmdr.data: Could you shove an Ubuntu 10.04 Live disk in there? Thats what I use (server but no live disk for that) and I'd like to make sure that works if no Gigabyte solution turns up.

    Thanks,

    J1M.

    Hey!

Today I got a custom bios from Asrock which should have iommu support. I will test it and give you feedback as soon as I can.

    Hi!

Again information about Asrock 890FX Deluxe3.
As mentioned before, I got a custom made bios from asrock support today. I've tested it and after flashing there is a iommu option in the bios. After activation the pci passthrough works with xen.

00:05.0 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40)
the last device (Intel HDAudio) works in virtual machine.

I send this bios to the xen-devel list and asked for a download link (and adding this board to the wiki list) at VTdHowTo - Xen Wiki. If someone wants this bios, send me a private message and I will mail it.

    @Jens
    So now it's MSI's turn!
As stated earlier in this thread MSI are at work producing a BIOS having IOMMU support. So anyone interested reading this and having a MSI 890FXA-GD70 at disposal should at once post a ticket to
    MSI Online Customer Service
requesting an IOMMU (beta) BIOS to be sent asap...

I've been following this thread with interest.

I have the GA-890GPA-UD3H, does the issue of IOMMU support apply to this board as well?
I'm still running an old kernel (need to run RHEL 5) so it's not an urgent matter but something I'd like to be aware of.

    Regards

MSI provided me with the 1.75 version bios which brings IOMMU as an option in the bios. I can confirm that xen enables AMD-Vi support once you enable this option in the bios, but have not had a chance to try PCI passthrough yet.
