DOA can happen with any product, they can't hand test 10000's of sticks of memory or product each day. It happens, just something you have to get used to.

Setup a RMA on your memory and the next kit should work fine
Yes, point taken. I'm not an overclocker so I tend to take the information literally. I intend to RMA theram, but the third stick will be nothing but a spare, since the rest of the memory slots are for single sided sticks only, or am I being too literal again?

BTW I am a true believer in Gigabyte products. This is my third system based on their products.

Ya, I'd go ahead and keep the third stick as a spare or sell it, no need to RMA the memory itself unless it is faulty, which it may be based on our previous discussions.

    Gigabyte products rock man!

I am having the same sort of problems and combing the web for an answer.

    I have the gigabyte motherboard GA-P55A, UD6
    Four Corsair XMS3 4 GB PC3-12800 1600Mhz Dual Channel Core i3 i5 i7 DDR3 Memory Kit CMX4GX3M2A1600C9
    Intel Core i7 860 Processor 2.80 GHz 8 MB LGA1156 CPU I7-860BOX

The bios is only seeing 8gb of ram. Have Windows 7 64 bit version installed.

    Two channels 3 2 1 and 6 5 4

Motherboard manual (Page 16) says that to put the double sided either in 3 and 1, and 6 and 4; or to put it in 2 and 1, and 5 and 4. Neither one gives me more than 8GB of Ram showing in Bios.

The book references Dual Channel mode but does not say if it is something I have to turn on, or how to turn it on. I have changed out the sticks, tried them in pairs, mixed up the pairs and it all seems to give me 8GB of ram. Please...what am I missing.

you dont have to turn anything on,it just means if you have dual channel ram you have to install the sticks in certain slots to enable it,what qpi/vtt voltage are you using??

I have not changed anything, just accepted the defaults on everything. It should see all 16gb of ram as far as I can tell, but it doesn't.

it should but you might need to manually set qpi/vtt voltage for it to see full 16gb,test each stick one at a time in first white slot from cpu socket, they will all boot into windows if the modules are working

EDIT: the manual says for dual sided modules to install in slots #2-1-5-4

Yes, I currently have it in 2/1 and 5/4. The white ones are 3 and 6. I looked at what most people are recommending for qpi/vtt;1.65V RAM- and 1.35V QPI/VTT voltage; I am going to try this later on tonight. I am hoping it works and I see the whole 16GB. Is it possible I need to try and tone it down from 1600 mhz. I thought it should see it at that.

try with 1333 or 1066 and see if sees 16gb,usually you have to lower ram speed when your using 12gb+

Let us know how you get along with this!

You may be able to run at full speed, but at first I would set them to 1066 or 1333 just to see if you get all of it to show up or not. If you do not then you will need to tinker with QPI/Vtt (1.2-1.4 or so) and ram voltage 1.6-1.7, or remove your CPU and check to be sure you do not have any bent CPU socket pins
