Yes, the other PSU I had on hand at the time was a 2nd identical PSU, OCZ 500w ModXstream out of my other p55 build
I've never had an issue with OCZ PSUs before personally, altho I've heard some people complaining

I do have a Rosewell 650w PSU I could try, as well as a different 500w OCZ (StealthXStream)

best thing to do then is try with the rosewell psu,and set all your voltages to auto then if it freezes up again you will know pretty much its not psu then you can move on to other things, dont use the ocz psu's

ok... CMOS reset, optimized defaults & RAM voltage manually set @ 1.5v rest on auto and its been up for the past 30min, but I don't wanna jump to conclusions, as on monday it was up a good 4-5 hours without a freeze, but did freeze overnight

I'm baffled as to the variable frequency of crashes... when I was testing your suggestions earlier it was freezing within 5min of boot, even once during boot, but wasn't doing the same yesterday... even tho I know I tried some of the same combinations of settings

haven't tried the rosewell PSU yet, don't wanna make more than once change at a time, will do so just as soon as I'm sure its still freezing
(but... how can it possibly be solved by CMOS reset if i'm on mobo #2?) :/

idk, sometimes cmos gets corrupted with a crash/freeze,if it locks up again swap the psu for the rosewell and clear cmos again and test,it could be hardware most likely ram or possibly gpu/psu or could be a bios setting also again ram setting not right

I've tried multiple GPUs and two sets of RAM (ATI 4850/Nvidia 9600GSO & my old set of g.skill RAM i mentioned earlier on)
unfortunately I have no other DDR3 to try, these are my first P55 builds

Unless it turns out to be the PSU/PSU cabling, I'm convinced it has to be BIOS setting related, as I've replaced/swapped literally everything else
I could try the stock intel cooler i guess? already tried a new backplate & hardware for my existing cooler thinking it might be a short or something... but at this point its still benched on a wooden table so I dunno...

yeah i forgot you tried a few gpu's and ram,if you used the same model psu though when it was freezing up it could be that,or it could have been a slightly corrupted cmos,i dont think changing the heatsink would improve things since you have it on a wooden table

It ended up freezing again using the OCZ PSU, so I swapped in the Rosewell 650w PSU and left it overnight, and while it did survive the 5-6hrs I slept (poor night's sleep lol) it froze an hour or two later while setup watching streaming TV.

So.... there are no hardware components left to isolate/test, other than my CPU cooler. I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet & actually use the stock heatsink to test... (pushpins, ugh)

I don't know wtf.... It seems its gotta be BIOS related since it happens both with a fresh & a fully updated/drivered win7 instal, as well as once while booted into mac OSX... but Auto SHOULD work, especially with only one stick... shouldn't it? Or have I just not found the proper combination of BIOS adjustments? :/

try disabling intel turbo boost and see if it makes any difference, what does auto set the cpu voltage to??

CPU VID in BIOS is 1.2065 if that's what you mean, in windows it varies between 0.898-1.2~

    will try without turbo boost

I just tried experimenting with a basic overclock w all advanced CPU features Enabled
    160bclk, memory @ 1.5v 1600mhz , 9-9-9-24 Standard enhance, DVID+0.05v, VTT up one notch & the rest on Normal

    the same freeze :/
