    it still could be the brand and model of ram,it didnt get very good reviews on overclockers,you shouldnt need that much cpu and qpi voltage for stock clocks imo

    what are the timings you could try with looser ones and see if it helps,only other thing is to try with another brand like corsair,then if your still getting problems it could be something else

    Ok I know its been a long time since I posted here but I am still having a few hiccups with the new build...

    I have run memtest for hours on my ram with no probs, I have run all the OCCT stress tests each for an hour with no probs.
    I can play call of duty modern warfare 2 for hours and the comp is fine.
    There is a game called Aion (MMORPG) which I can play on full settings....but then it will crash midgame at various points and force a hard reboot.
    I am also getting very occassionally crashes on the desktop (eg when streaming video or something)

    Im really confused as to whether this could be a hardware issue given that im able to play COD for so long?

    All my windows 7 software and all gfx card drivers are up to date etc...

    Any help would be appreicated, cheers

    1st post here
    @Rebraal
    Try upping the vIOH to 1.3 to 1.36 volts . My ud3r will do exactly as you describe . If the IOH is lower than 1.3 v . I have also found that setting the QPI/VTT PLL voltage to 1.2 v also helps with stability too .
    I also found this oc guide invaluable . Check it out !

    Hope this helps........

    Hi there thanks for the input.

    So you are saying if the IOH voltage is <1.3v then your computer will freeze at the desktop? or freeze in games?

    It seems strange that Im able to play 1 game fine but not another if this was the case, but Ill try it out for sure.

    I had to increase my qpi/vtt to around 1.35v to make it relatively stable - before I was having trouble just installing windows.

    Thanks

    @Rebraal ,
    Yes if I set the ioh v less than 1.3 volts my pc will freeze on the desktop .
    When I 1st built my rig ( 920 + X58A Ud3r ) I set the bios to opt defaults and setup the usual mem timings , cpu power saving features off ,boot order etc . I loaded the os , xp x64 ,with no issues . At this point I started b'marking the machine with just opt defaults . In Cinebench 10.5 and 11 the open gl test would lock up , no bsod , just seized or black screen. I would have to do hard reset to reboot .
    I searched around . Looking for some info on general I7 oclocking and to see if there was anything on the seizures . The first link I opened was what I posted above . Reading the section on voltages , I noted mias thoughts on the where to start cpu , ioh and vtt voltages . I also found some references on the seizing being related to low ioh v elsewhere . So I set the ioh to 1.2 v from the default of 1.1 v . The seizing stopped .
    It came back at 160x18 cpu clock . I then set it to 1.3 as per mias guide . Seizing gone
    At 215x19 it started again . I had to up the ioh v to 1.36 v to make it stop . The max oc I have been able to get stable is 205x21 at 1.36 v ioh .

    As wazza suggested starting at 1.14 v and working up will work for you too . Your board is different than mine . It might need more or less voltage than mine . You will have to test to find what yours likes .
