you can try 1.66 if you want, just to see if it stops the cold boots,if it doesnt then set it back to 1.5v,if i were you i would exchange it for another brand g-skill ram always suffers from this from what ive seen on here

Whats the best brand I can get that wont have any of these problems? I was originally going to get this ram but it said that the x58a-ud3r didnt support 1600 ram. I was originallly going to go with this Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C9 ... The thing is though I am reading and corsair is having these problems too with memory recognition... not as much as g.skill though. What would you recommend? I would like to keep it under $200 obviously.

check kalidav's thread above this one in the list, same mb and same g-skill ram=same problem,he said disabling eist in advanced cpu features helped with cold boots and missing ram if you want to try that, corsair might be ok,i never see any problems with kingston ram either, ocz ram is worth considering too

If your buying new memory get yourself some Mushkin sticks, they work great on these boards

I reviewed 998679 kit, link in my signature. Currently I am reviewing and using the new Ridgeback 998826 kit, but my review will not be ready for a while though, but they do work great!

Free 2GB USB too!
Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced Ridgeback 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 998826

As for your current memory, you may need to use 1.3-1.4 QPI/vtt, can you please give me your full settings and BIOS version in a template from my signature, it is much easier to me to see everything and advise back this way.

Ok guys, sorry for the late response, I have been super busy. The best part about all of this is I spent $1k on my new computer and I am not even using it... haha I just dont want to deal with it.

Anyways, I stumbled upon two things I wanted to ask you guys.

*I found this link on Gigabytes website about compatible memory with the motherboard (x58a-ud3r)
http://www.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memo...-x58a-ud3r.pdf

So how accurate of a guarantee is this list that the ram WILL work 100% no issues? It seems to be a very outdated list... (I couldnt find a rev 2.0 list)

*Also I was originally going to buy 1600 Ram when I was building this POS but according to newegg the support for 1600 is not on the list... Is it just a typo or what?
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Go to Specifications, then Memory standard. It only lists DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 , which is why I went with the Gskill Ram 1333.

My specs:

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (Rev 2.0 stock bios) ~FA
Intel i7 930 2.8 ghz (21x multiplier)
G.Skill (3x2gb) 240-pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) -(F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ) ((9-9-9-24-2T))
(stock timings recognized in BIOS: (8-8-8-20-1T) )
XFX ATi 5770

Lsdmeasap,

The Mushkin RAM is nice, but there are only 8 reviews of the memory it doesnt really promise me much as far as reliability. But to be fair, pretty much any RAM for the i7 seems to be crap...

it will support 1600mhz speed, corsair xmp,ocz ram should work fine too, could be your brand or faulty batch, avoid g-skill ram too that can be problematic on gigabyte boards sorry just noticed you have g-skill,got mixed up with another user and kingston ram but same missing 2gb from 6gb

Also just to be sure, here is a picture of pins on the mobo

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5788/pims.jpg

Where is the screw to loosen for the clamp? I could not see anything to loosen anywhere

Also, I moved the RAM module that I had RMA'd from the 3rd slot to the middle slot just to track if this is still a module issue... I just dont understand it. Is it honestly a bad module constantly causing this issue or what? Because when I move the RMA'd module to the 2nd slot, the issue follows along with it.....................

I also disabled EIST under cpu features. We will see if it does anything on the next cold start

Well it looks like I shot myself nicely in the foot...

By RMA'ing the module, I can't return anything through newegg anymore. Basically I am out of my $200 on the ram and I am stuck using Gskill for this computer. I talked to gskill support about the issue, and the only thing they can do for me is have me send in all 3 modules together, and have them 'test' it on their supported motherboard. I told them about the issue of gigabyte and gskill not cooperating and he said that there no such issue. He said the fault is that I rma'd one module and now the new module is not synching with the old 2 causing the problem I am experiencing. Supposedly the rma'd module has a 'newer chipset' that the old ones dont have and is causing communication errors.

He said they will test it out, and see if they work on their motherboard, and if it works on theirs it should work on mine...

I just dont know what to say anymore... Am I just getting buls****ed around here or do you think they really are aware of the issue with the 4/6gb problem and actually have made a newer chipset?

thats true they have brought out a newer revised chipset that does work fine, but the old one has problems,i remember another user who replaced his with a new revised g-skill ram and it worked, can you identify the new module they sent you? ask if you can return the other two older modules for replacement with newer revised ones?

I just sent all 3 in for RMA. I would assume that they will be sending me the new ones?

Would you happen to link me to something about the new chipset for the Gskill ram revision?
