    Default OC @ 3.6GHZ Problem - X58A-UD3R

    I'm looking to settle in on an OC within the 3.6-3.8GHz range with the lowest voltage possible (as I'm running a quiet system). I couldn't seem to get 3.8GHz stable with any VCore near 1.20V. So I decided to drop back to 3.6GHz were I could run it (preliminary Prime tests for 1 hour) at 1.20V.

    Now I'm in the process of lowering the Vcore to see whats the lowest I can do at 3.6GHz. I'm able to do 2+ hours of Prime, but I fail LinX within the first 3-4 passes. Where should I look for the problem? Below are my current settings:

    You should set your uncore manually, if that 3600 auto shows is correct it is way to much (20) for using the x8 memory multi.

    Uncore should be 2x ram multi, or 2x + 1-2, so 16-18

    That alone might fix it, let us know how you get along testing 16-18

    I changed Uncore Frequency to 16x (2880MHz) and was able to do 15 passes of LinX with VCore 1.18750V. Stopped before 20 passes since I'm about to hit the sack. Will start testing 1.18250V and lower VCores tomorrow. Since LinX seemed to pick up an error over Prime, for my preliminary testing, I'm thinking of just sticking to LinX.

    If I do, how many passes should be okay before trying a lower VCore? Is it necessary to do a full 20 passes before going lower? I was thinking may half of that (8-10 passes), until I BSOD or error, then go back up one VCore, then run the 20 pass LinX, followed by Prime. That sound good?

    I like LinX myself too!

    I would say 5-10 or so would be fine, then 20 for final testing. Of course everyone has their opinion on LinX/IBT, but I think 20 passes with max mem is pretty stable.

    Your planned testing sounds good to me, good luck tweaking things!

    Well I got 1.1125V passable on 10 runs of LinX. Going lower, I got BCCode: 1e.

    Not sure what 1e code means, but I assume my dropping of the Vcore caused that, and to resolve I would just raise it back to what it was at 1.1125V. So now, I assume I can work on increasing the memory frequency closer to the 1600MHz rated spec? Otherwise with a BCLK of 180 and a SPD of x8, I'm only running it at 1440MHz.

    Testing CPU Multipler x19 with BCLK 190 now for 3.61GHz, and memory at 1520MHz. At that point, is it possible to try and lower QPI and DRAM voltages?

    Edit: Did a bunch more testing. So in my attempt to run my memory closer to spec, I cannot get LinX to pass at my previously passable point of 1.1125V. I've upped VCore to 1.1875V with x18 CPU multiplier, and 200 BCLK. This gets me the 3.6GHz that I was aiming for, but also a memory frequency of 1600MHz. I am running Uncore freq at 3200MHz, and already tried doing 3400MHz & 3600MHz to no avail.

    Any ideas on where to go next? I would think it has to do with the memory, since before I could run 3.6GHz on x20 multiplier and 180BCLK, as well as x19 multiplier and 190BCLK. But now with x18 multiplier and 200BCLK, I can't get LinX or Prime to pass, both of which get errors within 4-5 minutes.

    Hi,
    I was having a similar problem (see my thread http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/x58a...problem-39954/) and the problem came down to the OCZ Gold 1600mhz memory that no matter what I tried it refused to run at higher frequencies.
    My temporary solution was to leave the uncore multi to x6 until I swap these for better ones.

    Thanks uccy. I guess that will have to be my last resort. I'll probably try working at it for another day or so.

    So I've tried upping my DRAM voltage from 1.64 to 1.66, and that did not help. I've tried upping the VCore back around 1.120V, but that didn't help either. I would assume though, that if I can run the CPU at 3.6GHz at VCore lower than 1.120V, then I shouldn't need more now? Or is that wrong to assume as increasing the memory frequency to 1600MHz will be affecting it as well.

    For now, I got this to run stable. I'm pretty satisfied with this (35C Idle, 61C Load), but just irritated that I can't run my memory at rated specs.

    youll need more qpi/vtt to run higher ram speed,what qpi/vtt voltages did you use??
