Exclamation GA-EP45-DS3R. Won't Boot to Windows, Hangs at Building DMI Pool

    Hello Everyone,

I have a computer I built over a year ago running a GA-EP45-DS3R. It has been running fine up until now. This started after connecting a loud clicking dying Seagate external harddrive to my computer to backup whatever files I have left.

The computer now either reboots right before detecting IDE drives , Displaying Memory testing or memory runs at dual interlaced messages during startup. If it detects the IDE drives ( it shows the correct devices ( 1 hard drive and 1 dvd drive) and proceeds to stall at Building DMI pool. Once in awile it will get past Buidling DMI Pool to Verifying DMI pool. I have tried connecting the faulty external harddrive to boot but it makes no difference with it or without.

I have tried to reset CMOS however the results are the same. I have even tried to swap my harddrive to a brand new one (windows free) and this did not change anything. I am unable to get into the bios settings as the keyboard (usb) wont activate...

I'm guessing the usb connected Seagate Harddrive corrupted something on my motherboard.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

    Regards,

    Kyle

its best to buy a cheap usb to ps2 adaptor so that you can use your keyboard and enter the bios,if you re-flash the bios and check the clear dmi pool data box maybe that will help clear it and boot you into windows again

i get to the flash utility and tried to update but iit sat at verifying .. Also it seems like the keyboard dies after a few button presses each time. Something like a timer.. Still unable to get into bios but i can get into boot menu (f12) and qflash (end)

it just hangs at preparing to enter setup when i try to get to bios

As it seems it is not stable long enough to let you do anything, As if DRAM memory is not stable. In my system it did the same thing.

Yeah I have been running 2 x 2gb and 2 x 1 gb OCZ ram sticks for a total of 6gb.. Now they dont work together anymore. All 4 worked fine together for a good year or so. I tested each stick individually and as a pair and each one works fine. I'll need to play around with the voltages to get them working again.

Again i guess ill run memtest just in case

Nice to see you found the cause of the problem!

It's best to not mix memory anyway, so I'd leave out the smaller kit
