    Question Unstable q9550 and EP45 Ds3R

    Hey everyone gotta say this is the best site around for overclocking steps with gigabyte boards.


    I have a q9550, that I dont think I have voltage settings and or memory settings correct on. Im booting into the OS but gameplay is crashing after a few minutes.

    I have a q9550, ep45 DS3r, f11e bios,

    8gb of Kingston PC8500 memory

    AirCooled running at around 45 degrees celcius.

    I did notice when going through my settings my MCH\DRAM reference is quite low @.65 instead of .9

    and I will need to go back and get the advanced timings, Im hoping this is something Im overlooking. Ive seen people with large overclocks and stability and I seem to have a problem right out of the gate. Im assuming due to the amount of memory and me not knowing how to compensate with proper timings and voltages.

    this probably overclocks the Pcie if other than Auto.

    How did you manage this?

    Except if You are actually running 2.66D, not 2.00D? It should be tRD 9.

    What is this for? You need less to run 800Mhz, for example i need 1.65. This does kill Drams you know.

    Did you leave these on Auto? This will overvolt them by +0.1 every time you cross a boundary at 349, then 399 Mhz FSB, that is 0.2 atleast.!!!

    Well Im definitely running a static read of 8. The only way I will even post is with an 8. I have read for larger amounts of memory its necessary. My memory is rated @ 2.3v so I set it to that. I plan to start going higher once I get it stabilized and the higher voltage is going to be necessary.

    I left nothing in the voltage set to auto. I manually set all items.

    tRFC may need to be 68 or so for 8GB]

    tRD of 9 would be best for the memory multi you are using, but it does depend on your FSB which you didn't add so not sure. If you are using less than 400 FSB you can/should use 2.00B memory multi, or at least the B ones. You will have to set MCH Strap to Auto or 333 to choose B multi's

    Im running a 400 so Im using 2.00d. I thought I included that in there. I think my command rate was wrong it was set to 0. I changed it to 2.

    I also upped the mch core voltage to 1.30

    Ahh ok, no it isn't up there in your settings you left FSB blank

    MCH 1.26-1.28 might be ok, so try those later if you want

    Well I just played for a solid 30 minutes straight and then finally the game crashed. Display driver issues. Any idea what to correllate that with?

    I tried what you did with Driving strength 1066, Mch Core 1.30V and tRd of only 8, and it worked, but at what a price, and it can't pass not even one loop of intelburn, The MCH core is the only thing behind the tRD, and 1.30V is not enough for my board, probably yours too. tRD=8 on P45 is bad idea.

    I suggest to load optimised defaults and do as I do to clean whatever mess, and then set All voltages to "normal".

    Im already ocing and going to the 1066 bus speeds. I just needed to get these memory timings squared off. From what I've read the 45 chipset ant tRD 8 are a bad combo especially with a lot of memory even if its high quality stuff.

    tRD of 8 is tough to get stable using 400+ FSB and using a D memory multi, best to set tRD 9
