You shouldn't have to have 2 sticks.

You may just need more Vcore is all for your single stick testing now

ok, I will attempt small increases and run the test again. What Vcore setting is to high for the i5-661?

I noticed that my PCH temp is always around 53 C, but CPU is nice a cool at 32-35. Is this normal?

Yes that is normal, add a fan to the NB if you feel it is too warm.

What speed are you running, Vcore of 1.2-1.35 should be good I would think unless you have a super overclock going on :)

nope no overclocking. QPI/VTT at 1.21 is alright?
How about QPI multiplier? Right now it is on auto, but it puts it up to X48 (6.4 MHz)

Yes that is OK QPI, you may be able to use less even with 1333Mhz memory.

QPI multi can be any value, just keep under 8GT/s, of course higher may need more Vdimm and or QPI/Vtt

With no overclock you should be ok using Auto or setting the voltage a bit above what auto gives you under load, so that when set manually under load you have a little bit more.

So every tick increase of Vcore, the test runs a bit longer before an error, but the load temp increase as well.
Right now I am at 1.22V and a load temp of 60C

Made it up to 1.262V and still errors after <5mins. Load temp is up to 63C.
I am not overclocking, so certainly I shouldn't need such Volts?
Any other settings can try adjusting?

Update: 1.3V ran for about 10 mins before an error. Load temp at 67C.

It could just be this memory is not fully compatible with the current BIOSes for this board, do you have another stick or can you borrow one to test with and verify this?

Unfortunately not. I have a few friends that built systems a while back but they all used DDR2.
But it was in the list of verified RMA on the gigabyte website.

I talked to a Intel rep yesterday to see if we could trouble shoot the cpu. I had to explain what prime95 was :-(
Instead of troubleshooting, the just offered a warranty exchange. My feeling is that there is only a small chance it is the cpu. But should I still take them up on it?

Another thought: Does windows 7 use so much RAM that 2Gb is barely enough. Therefore, when I run the stress test, it caps out and fails?
