Well in that case XMP would not give you 1600Mhz either unless this is a BIOS issue, what CPU is it you actually have (Sorry Can't find i5 775 as you listed on page one, so wanted to be sure)

Sorry, that first page was a totally incorrect description of my processor.

It is the intel core i5 750 (lynfield)

I thought that might be it!

In order for you to run 1600Mhz memory speed you have to overclock to at least 160 Bclk, since this CPU has limited Memory multi's of 6-10

Ok I get ya, system doesn't really enjoy the over clocking with the stock cooler at the moment.

My main question is - with it running with the BIOS' Optimized Defaults, and the memory left alone at the 1333 speeds, should my system be stable?

Hey guys - still running the optimized settings with the stock 1333 memory speeds.
Still experiencing a freeze every now and then.

What I'm after now is weather or not it would be worth my time getting the motherboard replaced or the RAM replaced?

What are your thoughts, please let me know

I think both are likely fine, it's just that you are underclocking memory that should be running at a higher speed, so you may need to adjust some things differently.

Or it may not be stable at that speed, not sure, are you setting it yourself and not using XMP/Auto?

If you do want to get something new, if you do not plan to get a better cooler and overclock, then you might want to look into 1333Mhz memory.

If it were me I would get a good cooler so you could overclock to 160 Blck because the memory might be fine and just needs to run faster than you are setting it at.

try setting qpi/vtt and dram manually as auto isnt a constant voltage, see what auto sets those at first
