Check out the Scythe Mugen 2 cpu setup as a less expensive heatsink option. For about $35 + shipping, it comes with a fan. I've read several very positive Mugen 2 reviews.

Chike is a senior member in the forum and uses this setup. I've PM'd him to share his recommendations about his Mugen's performance.

Sorry, somehow I missed your latest post #10.
I think that the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme is an older design that used to be at or near the top of heap. It probably still offers very good performance.
Keep in mind that most higher end tower setups are about 160mm tall, often measured from the top of the cpu surface.
Is your computer case deep enough to handle one of these tall tower units.
Is there a case fan on the side of your case that might cause fitment problems with a tall unit?
I'm pretty sure that the older Tuniq Tower would easily outperform your Freezer 7 Pro cooler when overclocking to 4.0GHz or higher.

I prefer to only read hardware reviews from top tier websites that have proven to deliver high quality, in depth reviews.
Unfortunately, some good sights seem do do half-fast hardware reviews.
You can use the forum search feature to find members that are using the Tuniq Tower and you can create a new thread asking for cooler recommendations for your Q9550.

The Mugen 2 cooler appears to be a top tier unit, but it's very large and some buyers have found it to be somewhat difficult to install properly.
You might need to add an addition cooling fan for a push/pull setup with higher overclocks above 4.0GHz.
You also need to verify that there won't be an fitment issues with your memory.

As I said before the Mugen is a bit pain to install, and it's big, most likely to block at least one memory slot even on the ep45-ud3p unless the fan is installed on the side, which is not an option for me, in a full tower it may be an option..

    Thanks Chike.
The dimensions for the Mugen 2 Rev B. show that the underside of the cooling fins is 48 mm higher than the top of the cpu top surface. This shouldn't be a problem with memory that has heat-sinks that don't extend very much above the memory's printed circuit board.

It does look like mounting the cooler is a bit of a job, even if you don't have other fitment issues.
I'll need to compare the mobo layout differences between your EP43-UD3L and the EP45-UD3P.
If it looks promising, I think that I'll buy a Mugen 2.
If I can't get it to work, I'll have an awfully big paperweight. ;)

**edit** Oh, poop, I just noticed that the picture I downloaded from the Scythe website doesn't look like Chike's cooler.

Problem is that screws are screwed from the bottom so if you want to comply with AS5 instructions it's a bit difficult.
Doesn't look that different, I believe dimentions are the same.
Only the fan blocks the memory slots, and yes modules with low profile heat sink would not have any problem.
The distance between the CPU and memory is a bit larger for UD3P but still not far enough I believe, but if you have a full twoer with fan on top it would not be a problem to mount the HS fan on it's side (or even 2 for push/pull).

My case has two 140mm fans on the top and the psu is mounted on the bottom.
It looks like I'll have to make a full sized cardboard model of the Mugen and see if it will work with the exhaust from the Mugen blowing out the top of the case..
I might be able to make it work with 2 fans in a weird push/pull setup where the pushing fan would mount on the narrow side of the cooler closest to the video card and the pull fan would be close to the standard case exhaust fan on the back of the case. The existing top exhaust fan would be close the topmost side of the Mugen, but this case fan would still be attached to the top of the case.
    Whew!!!

Thanks again for your feedback Chike.

The Mugen 2 looks ultra cramped in Chike's case, meanwhile, it seemed like the cpu temp didn't drop at all. Chike, any updates on that?

Though, the UD3P + Antec Soho SX1040B should be fairly roomy.

No updates. It's difficult to say as I OCed higher since.
I broke a part in the Zalman CNPS8700 so I improvized something that I think locked it tighter, so it may have cooled better than the avarage CNPS8700.
I am soon going to upgrade my machine so I'll check if the thermal paste was applied properly.

Look at the noctura nt-c12P if your case can't handle heights. I had my q8200 OC'd to 3.36 stable on an AC freezer Pro but over 8 months it post stability now my chip is shot. Time for a Q9550.
