Default Bizarre system time wakeup message on EP45-UD3R

Firstly - we have two custom boxes on site with the Giga EP45-UD3R

Secondly - we made the Windows 7 move on all workstations and I have been testing sleep mode on these machines. After many trials and tribulations - trying to understand Microsoft massive sleep changes since Vista (the big one being - the machine will not go back to sleep within the proper timeout window after an unattended wake-up with the High Performance Plan in place) - I decided to live with the way 7 sleeps - and even tho the bloody machine falls asleep every half hour if I am not on it - it's a pain but I am getting used to it.

One thing that I am NOT getting used to is this crap - as seen in the System Event log:

The system time has changed to ‎2010‎-‎06‎-‎17T06:11:26.500000000Z from ‎2010‎-‎06‎-‎17T03:46:49.531021100Z.

Seems that if a 7 machine is slumbering away - regardless of power plan set or time of day - these two machines suddenly fire this "event" or whatever the f it is and the machine suddenly bolts awake and stays that way until the plan timeout - 30 minutes, 3 hours..whatever - expires.

What on God's green earth causes this event - and how do I shut it off? I have probed every service, applet and area in the OS trying to understand what causes it and I am tapped out.

I have eliminated the Windows Time Service - this event occurs whether it's on or off.

Is it a motherboard problem? A weak CMOS battery....some BIOS thing that I do have set right? In my wife's case - after she got totally pissed off with the 30 minute sleepfest that I told her about with the "balanced plan" in play, she made me set her machine to sleep every five hours...

But of course if one of these "system time has changed" events occur on her machine - like at 12:37am...the damn machine will then stay away for 5 bloody hours as it attempts to fulfil the parameters of the power plan.

Really need to understand just WTF this event is and how to rip out whatever is causing it. With both mine and my wife's machine running the same board - I have to thin it's something related to some setting in the BIOS....

I look forward to anyone's insight on this.

    Cheers!

Well..I am getting somewhere....firstly - the NIC had - Wake computer via "magic packet" enabled so I turned that off. Then I went to services and restarted the time service and re-enabled it's weekly time check under Task Manager. I have it set to check on Sundays @ 6:00pm (to ensure I don't get some annoying wakeup in the middle of the night). And - as soon as I did all of the above - the system log reported two more instances of this annoying message:

The system time has changed to ‎2010‎-‎06‎-‎17T23:18:18.747000000Z from ‎2010‎-‎06‎-‎17T23:18:18.747054900Z.

So - this message is related to the time service in some way. But that does not explain how this moronic message appears in the System Log all by itself - when the Time Service is completely shut off. Something has to be happening to have an event appear in the system log?

    Cheers!

did you uncheck those? "shutdown wake on lan" "wake on pattern match"

if it was your cmos battery failing it would change the pc's time and date alot,do you turn the pc off for long periods at a time? sometimes this will drain the cmos battery

I do not have the WOL option....I did shut off Pattern Match and Magic Packet. I do not turn off the PC at all. It's either on and working or sleeping. I am not discounting a battery drain but the same BS (same weird wakeup and same weird messages) are happening on my wife's PC (same mobo) as well....could it be we are both victims of a weak battery scene?

Well - judging by the message:

The system time has changed to ‎2010‎-‎06‎-‎17T23:18:18.747000000Z from ‎2010‎-‎06‎-‎17T23:18:18.747054900Z.

And .747054900Z v.s. 747000000Z...it looks to me like something has changed - at a nano level.

Having said that - I really don't care about the time setting - what's pissing me off is the machine waking up all the time after this event is logged. I am fine with the event firing - just NOT when the machine is sleeping....
