I appologize. I just didnt want to have the guy risk burning out his chip and see a post in 2 weeks wondering why his system wont post, becasue hes been running it at 80C+ 24/7.

Its better safe then sorry. Not everyone has $$ to just dish out due to trial and error. Hes stating daily use, so why push it? For what 100 - 200Mhz. Stay within spec the best you can.

Wazza sorry if I came off the wrong way.

no its fine,i wouldnt advise anyone anything if i thought id would damage components,i feel 80c is acceptable on x58 setups or keep below, like i said the mb/cpu will shut down the pc before you do any damage though its best to not let it get that far,my max temps for a 3.8ghz clock are around 77c-79c,ive been running at that clock for over year now without issues, for some quick benches ive gone to 4.2ghz and even 4.5ghz with the temps being the limiting factor at 4.5ghz on air otherwise its been 100% stable/reliable,i can only advise from what ive experienced

EDIT: everyone has there own views on max temps the same as how long you should stress test a cpu for to determin stability,if you dont want to run your cpu between 70-80c then just lower your oc and voltages to your own preference

Ok lads how about I do this in stages the topic title says it all and this is my 1st go at OC lol After all All CPUs react differently as yous no, how about I start at 3.2 and go from there, that way ill see what I can get stable with the specs I have.

Your help and opinions is appreciated maybe I should do a bit of a read up and find out what each setting does so I understand a bit better.

    Sorry to have caused this

Everyone also should keep in mind that we never use our PC's at the temps/levels that these stress tests push things too, so temps ate 80C in LinX or other apps would likely never been seen in actual real world usage

An FYI: Prime95 tops my temps out at 59C and IBT tops it at 64C. Bad Company 2 tops my temps at 61C.

^ Thats higher then Prime95! Granted its not 100% load the entire time but it does get taxed quite well at times.

As new games/applications come out with higher / better core utlization. You will notice CPU temps reaching new hieghts as coding will allow the cpu to give it all it can! Bad Company 2 is a perfect example.

    Just an FYI ;)

50c on the cores with bad company2 and only 15% cpu usage........i would go with a 3.6ghz overclock, and run memory at 1600mhz,try with 22x160 and a memory multiplier of 10,uncore freq will be 20 or 21x,voltages dram-1.66,cpu v 1.18750-1.25v and qpi/vtt voltage 1.3-1.35 try with those start with highest voltages and work your way down untill it fails then raise one or two clicks

22x is your cpu multiplier 160 is the bclk so 22x160=3.520ghz clock, its what you enter to achieve your overclock on the cpu, cpu voltage is 1.18750 volts anything from that to 1.250000 volts for your cpu you will need to test, for me all i need is 1.18750 volts for cpu@3.8ghz but cpu's vary
