Default Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 8.8. 88 8B error and continuous power cycle

It use to post but now it will not. After power on 8.8. (8B) is displayed for about 1 second then system powers off for about a second then powers on and then it's in a loop. It only has one stick of ram and graphics card. Both power cables are securely plunged in. Tried clearing bios, using different RAM and video card. Is it dead or something else to try?

    Thanks.

what psu are you using? test with one stick in one white slot one at a time untill youve tested each white slot? it will boot up into windows from any single white ram slot so test them one at a time, check all power cables on mb are fully seated

    Thanks for the reply. The power supply is a Corsair 750HX 750W power supply. I tried a single stick in each slot with same results. I'll see if I can try a different PS.<m:smallfrac m:val="off"><m:dispdef><m:lmargin m:val="0"><m:rmargin m:val="0"><m:defjc m:val="centerGroup"></m:defjc></m:rmargin></m:lmargin></m:dispdef></m:smallfrac><m:smallfrac m:val="off"><m:dispdef><m:lmargin m:val="0"><m:rmargin m:val="0"><m:defjc m:val="centerGroup"></m:defjc></m:rmargin></m:lmargin></m:dispdef></m:smallfrac>

yh try with different psu just to eliminate it,you can try clearing cmos by removing mb battery for longer aswell 30mins or overnight, sometimes you have to leave it that long to fully clear it

Thanks again. I tired the battery thing last night, left it out over night. I just tried a different PS with same results. I'm thinking MB bad since yesterday it powered up fine and the CPU is only a few days old.

makesure its not shorting on the case the mb,have you disturbed anything recently? any components?

EDIT:this is what ive found for the led error codes from lsdme's list

88 is dead CPU, but can also be dead/incompatible PSU or dead motherboard

    8b reserved - might be PPM/Turbo initialization

you could check your cpu socket for any bent pins but do this carefully and take care not to damage or bend any pins whilst you check

It worked a day or two and the CPU has not been removed so I don't think it would be bent pins.

check it just to be sure, sometimes even reseating the cpu and re-clamping it down-re seating heatsink helps as the pressure applied when installing and having the heatsink installed can block or bend the copper traces in the mb coming from cpu leading to problems,it often accounts for missing ram in windows too sometimes

best to check everything you can before you start the rma process

Pulled board out of case and removed CPU. All pins look fine. Reinstalled CPU and cooler and got the same results. I'm thinking bad board or CPU. If it was a bad CPU would the board remain powered on with the 8B error and not power off? I'm thinking board since it power cycles.

    Thanks.
