What does normal and dvid really do ?

    Saves me power ?

So if I determine that 1.275 vcore is stable. Do I set to Normal and + whatever dvid to make up to get 1.275?

ok you see how cpu throttles or changes in voltage and cpu speed depending on load when cpu voltage is set to auto? well if you set a manual fixed voltage the cpu wont do this but if you set cpu to normal voltage setting and add or remove extra voltage needed to be stable at your oc in dvid hence + to add and - to remove the extra voltage needed or not needed from whatever "normal" sets cpu voltage to

so if normal sets 1.2v for your cpu but you need 1.25000v to be stable at 4ghz then you would subtract in a calculator 1.25 from 1.2 which leaves 0.500,then you enter +0.0500v in dvid,if however normal sets 1.25v and you only needed 1.2v to be stable at 4ghz then you would use -0.0500v in dvid then the cpu would scale up and down in speed and cpu voltage depending on the cpu load,on no occasion it would go any higher than 1.25v but would go below 1v when idle or web browsing ect,all the modern graphic cards do this too,it saves power and cpu heat when cpu isnt doing much work and still lets you use full 4ghz if and when it needs to

this method can be used for stock clocks too,it helps you get the lowest possible voltage and remain stable, much better than an auto cpu voltage

How do I determine what voltage will [Normal] give me ?

    So far

    Test 1 @ 1.275 vcore + 1.255 qpi/vtt = OK after 8 hours PRIME
    Test 2 @ 1.2625 vcore + 1.175 qpi/vtt = failed to boot windows
    Test 3 @ 1.2625 vcore + 1.195 qpi/vtt = boot window OK but BSOD Prime
    Test 4 @ 1.26875 vcore + 1.195 qpi/vtt = BSOD Prime
    Test 5 @ 1.26875 vcore + 1.215 qpi/vtt = Currently testing now 30 minutes Prime so far
    Test 6 @ 1.26875 vcore + 1.235 qpi/vtt with 8-8-8 and 9-9-9 memory timings = will try this later if test 5 fails

you can set cpu to it and it will show you what it uses in the bios,or go back to stock bclk and look in windows,in easytune/advanced/voltage1,but im sure it shows you in the bios where all the voltages are for dram ect,

    Odd

the 1.275 vcore i test stable with Prime 8 hours with, i changed to Normal vcore (1.1125v) + dvid 0.1625 = couldnt boot into windows and BSOD

So now I've changed back to a set 1.275 with C3/c6, c1e and EIST turned on

Should I turn up a notch in the dvid ??

you dont need c1e,only eist but c3 can be enabled too, could be that particular bios version, some need more or less voltage and newer bios's might have dvid working better,i know it works fine on my mb and bios version

did you use +0.1625v? not -0.1625v,could need one or two clicks more than what a fixed voltage needs depends on bios version, its something for you to tweak anyway and use whats best for you

i leave llc on auto too i dont disable it

I want to use the newer bios but sorta afraid i might screw it up

if it load a new bios = will all my settings in bios remain unchanged ?

Do you have a guide using @BIOS ? I've only used qflash before.

Is it updating from Windows or before booting into windows ?

    http://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/121/tech_a_bios.htm

Do I need to disable HT as guide above?

I'm just a bit concern because Lsdmeasap says not to use @BIOS as per thread here http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html

you can flash back and forth to any bios version so if you dont like the newer bios you can flash back to fa bios,@bios is windows based, you should be fine if you use the latest version then go back to qflash

to use @bios you can first save your current bios inc all bios/oc settings to a bios file on your desktop or folder, then download latest bios from website and update/point @bios to it and flash, you can make a note of your oc/bios settings before you update or save oc profile by pressing f10 or f11 not sure then it should save it for you, after flashing bios load optimized defaults and then re enter bios settings or load your saved oc profile

    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0)

Latest bios is a beta - do you recommend me to try that or just go with the earlier FG1 ?

    There's no documented changes too

use the newest one, they dont list the changes and when they do they dont say everything so it might have more updates contained in them

save your current bios to your pc first using @bios and save your current oc to a profile in the bios, then you can later use qflash to flash the saved bios,or load your oc profile from within the bios
