    Default Pre-OC'ing temp check (idle/load) for X58A-UD3R + i7 930 + Megahalems

    Hi Lsdmeasap,

I have been reading this forum for the last 2 months wishing i have a proper rig, reading alot of posts, i just finished building my rig today. Obviously this is the site for overclocking and all the pros are here, so please help me overclock my cpu, i'd really appreciate it.

But first and foremost I would like to reaffirm my temps for i7 930 stock speeds with megahalems HSF. As attached are the pictures

    And stock speed at load

Then I would like to get some recommended settings as to what I would need to get to 3.8 Ghz stable then move higher

There are the specs for my pc:

    Case: Antec P182
    Psu: Corsair HX620
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0
    CPU: Intel i7 930 2.8GHz D0 Batch#3001A922
    Memory: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ
    Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B

I am not a noob, but I am not the best overclocker around and i keep failing, my target OC is 4.0 - 4.4 GHZ stable, so Please help me

    Thank you in advance,
    Chiggah

take a look at my oc template for 3.8ghz,you will probably have more success with a 21x cpu multi as 22x will use more voltage, anything from 1.18750-1.25000v for cpu voltage you will need to test

temps are fine, keep your eye when overclocked dont let them go above 80c but they shouldnt with that cooler as its one of the best

there all similar boards, you will need to tweak cpu and qpi/vtt voltage a little as everyboard and cpu is different, some use more some use less volts, but its a good starting point regarding settings, just try with those in template and if it fails raise cpu voltage few clicks at a time and re-test,you shouldnt need any higher than 1.25v for 3.8ghz so start from 1.18750 and raise if needed, for qpi/vtt anything from 1.30000v to 1.36v again start low and raise if its unstable, blue screen error codes are 101 means too much or not enough cpu v,124 error is too much or not enough qpi/vtt voltage

Tried your settings but my ram timings are running 10-10-10-24 which is a bit odd

So now I'm forcing the ram to run at 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5V but I'm having troubles passing LinX. Failed at 5/100. Temps are ok around 73-74

I set my core mutiplier to 21x in the bios but in CPUZ it's running at 22x ? Is this because of the turbo boost ?

Running 21x180 in bios but it's 22x180 in windows..

EDIT: Now 2nd try at 47/100... that was odd, why did it fail first time ? o.O

is ram rated at 1.5v? if so keep it at that,if its rated at 1.65 then set it to 1.66 in the bios, what qpi/vtt voltage you using? for 9-9-9-24 you might need few clicks more qpi/vtt

I can get 3.96 Ghz stable. Trying to get to 4.2 Ghz stable now, any tips on what should I change ?

    Ram rated 1.5V to 1.6V.

yes set vcore to normal, set ram to 1.6v and try one or two clicks more qpi/vtt voltage, uncore freq is twice what your ram multiplier is then add one to it,so for example 8x ram multi will be 17x uncore freq and so on,2xram multi +1
