    Unhappy Problem with GTX480

    Hello,

this is my first post here, a friend gave me the idea to ask you also here.
    Here is my problem:

I bought last week a new PC and Nvidia's display driver crashes FSX (Microsoft Flightsimulator X).

In detail i got from Win7 64bit the error :
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

All the time FSX crashed and with Gigabytes 197.03 driver also stopped working entire the PC, needing restart from power button only.

The details below are from Window's event viewer :

Faulting application name: fsx.exe, version: 10.0.61637.0, time stamp: 0x46fadb14
Faulting module name: nvd3dum.dll, version: 8.17.12.5721, time stamp: 0x4c0d6bf7
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x00346b3c
    Faulting process id: 0xb0c
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cb16fdd6ae906d
    Faulting application path: D:\Fsx\fsx.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\nvd3dum.dll
    Report Id: f9a197b0-82fd-11df-a5b6-005056c00008

I changed drivers from Gigabyte's 197.03 to Nvidia's 197.75 & latest 257.21 with the same problem still there, (maybe with latest drivers the only difference is that the Windows are running ok after FSX crashes).

I load from Bios, Safe settings, with no luck.

When i am from outside view, cycling view around the airplane or top view zoom in zoom out and loads heavy textures or many data, the FSX crashes.

    My system in detail:
    Motherboard Gigabyte X58A-UD7
    PSU Enermax 1050W
    Ram Corsair DDR3 Triple 1600Mhz 7-7-7-20 6gb ram (TR3X6G1600C7D)
    VGA Gigabyte GTX-480
    CPU Intel i7 930 2.8Ghz
    Megahalem AirCooler
Coolermaster case with perfect air flow.
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Intel SSD HDD 80GB for Windows
    Baracuda 2TB for FSX

Does anyone from you have an idea about the problem, what else i have to try?
    Please reply !!!

    regards

    Eddie Armaos

Can you give more details about these? These are BIOS settings right? But where to change, what ?
Sorry, but never tweak before, if i will solve the problem, it will be an option :-)

I will try Vista compatibility, thanks

Btw, 78-80degrees temp of VGA's GPU is ok?
Below the img right after the FSX's crash and error message from windows.

Is there possible to have the Corsair Rams the problem (not compatible)?

    Thanks !!

i think its driver nvidia, fermi runs hot its normal those temps,do you have gpu fan set to auto? if so set it manually as high as you can without it being noisey, for my card i set it to 55-60% yours will be different, ioh core and ich core voltages are in the bios somewhere just look carefully and try 1.14v on each,if no improvement put them back to stock 1.10000v,....they might fix it as newer drivers come out fermi is still a new card

I made a profile at MSI Afterburner, but the same, even the temp was below 70C

Here the FSX making stuters, freezing, unfreezing, loosing terrain textures, then returning inside ****pit view, continues normal.

I didn't find them @ BIOS settings....... These values are for Memory, VGA, what?

they help with graphics cards or when running sli/crossfire,you only need a tiny amount, look in easytune/tuner/advanced/voltage 1 you will see ioh core voltage maybe you can adjust from there without it freezing pc,look in voltage 2 for ich core,i dont think this will help though but its worth a try,you could try looser ram timings see if that helps? try 8-8-8-24 if no improvement put back to stock

Like wazza I believe your problem is Most likely driver problem. The latest Nvidia driver is 258.69 make sure you are using that version. The other thing could be is a unstable card. I see you are using MSI after burner. Are you overclocking the card or are you a stock settings? If you are overclocking you might not be stable you may need to up the gpu volts a smidge more. Even if you at stock clocks try just bumping it up just a tad. This driver crashing problem has been a Nvidia problem in the past when they came out with their 200 series cards and has gotten better with other drivers. There might even bee a bios update for your card but unless you know what your doing I do not recommend doing that.

I used to play a lot of FSX. It was trying to be one of the poster children for Direct X 10 'cept it was released without it, then it got sort of tacked on later and caused nothing but problems for me. In game, make sure you have that "Direct x 10 preview" UNCHECKED. That thing really f's the game up.
