    Default GA-P55A-UD4P & OCZ Platinum OCZ3P1333LV4GK, BSOD

I have tracked my instability problems with a new system build to an apparently defective RAM module. The machine runs fine with one module, but swap that with the other one (or run the pair), and I get frequent BSOD crashes.

When researching however, I ran across other posts citing potential compatibility problems with some OCZ RAMs and the GA-P55A-UD4P. I also found various threads about RAM settings, timings, voltages, etc. The RAM packaging for example says 1.65V, and the AUTO BIOS settings come up 1.5V.

Thus, before I order an RMA replacement for my RAM module, would I be better off replacing this with something different?

Any suggestions for running RAM at other than default AUTO settings are also welcome. (With a focus on stability, rather than max OC performance).

    System specs:
    GA-P55A-UD4P, rev 1.0, BIOS F11
    Core i5 750
    4 GB OCZ3P1333LV4GK
    2x OCZ Vertex 2 SSD RAID0

edit: I just noticed you have platinum kit, and mine is a gold kit. maybe there is a difference.

I would replace the kit, with a different model or same doesn't matter.

You said you have one faulty stick in your second sentence, so the buck should stop there really, and you should get a new set.

I was getting a "database error" from the forum when I tried to post an earlier update, but I did decide to switch to a different kit rather than replace with the same one.

G.Skill ECO modules are on the way, and should match nicely.

I now have the G.Skill ECO F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO installed, and all is stable.

    One last question:

I enabled the XMP settings in Advanced Memory Settings page, and here it shows 1.35V, matching the memory specs.

Under Advanced Voltage settings, 'normal' for DRAM shows as 1.5V, and the setting is AUTO. Does that mean it defaults to 1.5V, or does it pick up the 1.35V from the XMP?

On the M.I.T. page, the monitored DRAM voltage is shown as 1.44V.

Am I configured correctly for this mem kit? Is the tolerance on the voltage monitoring perhaps just a bit off, or did it decide that they'd be happier with a bit more juice?

if dram voltage is on auto it will fluctuate according to how much it needs and usually overvolts things, xmp is just a ram profile you can set the speed/timing voltages manually, dram voltage is fine 1.35-1.5 if it overvolts it higher than spec then set dram voltage yourself to 1.5v

EDIT: is it better now with new ram??

You can check applied voltage with Everest ultimate or HWmonitor, then you will know what actual voltage Auto and normal gives you with XMP enabled. Easytune will also show you the exact BIOS set amount when either setting is used.

Since the health section is showing 1.44 I would assume what setting you are using is setting 1.45
