Default GTX 470 (GV-N470UD-13I) high idle temps with dual monitors

    Hello,

I replaced two older Nvidia cards with two Gigabyte GTX 470s (GV-N470UD-13I) on a Windows 7 64 bit non-SLI multi-monitor system with 275.21 drivers. The 470s do not appear to clock down at idle when dual monitors are enabled. I am experiencing idle temps between 81-84C with dual monitors and idle temps around 40C on a single monitor (i.e., same card).

Why is the core clock not being reduced by card/driver power management with dual monitors when the system is at idle or while working in 2D applications?

Any solutions for this problem would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

One Possibility is that their's not enough air flow. If your just using one card, the other would be idle so it'ld stay cool anyways. Where's when your using both cards, there's just not enoug hair going through the cards. Are your cards set up next to each other? Would it be possible to move one down another slow, even if it's not to a full speed lane, if your not SLI then there's really no need for them to be close to each other anyways. Having said that, 80C is quite a bit, so unless your case has no airflow at all, I doubt this is the only reason.

It could be those drivers as well, do you see the same with other drivers?

Also are you using the latest BIOS for the cards?

I have asked for a BIOS for you Rustam, hopefully I can get it for you.

I don't understand why support would not give you one!

Just in case there is some strange reason and my contacts also tell me no (Which I doubt will happen), I made a thread at another forum and ask users to dump there BIOS for me.

We will get it one way or another!

F_Donald (The OP) wont send you a BIOS backup?

Did you ask him via PM, and show him how to do with GPU-z?
