Default GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H New hard drive

I know this is probably so simple...but any help would be appreciated.

I just added a new hard drive to my GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H

It wont recognize any drive on SATA ports 3-6. What am I doing wrong?

Setup is two IDE channels for DVD

OS drive is SATA 1, New Drive on SATA2. If I plug either the old drive or the new drive into 3-6 it isnt recognized in BIOS or the OS.

I dont plan on running RAID, but would like to add more drives to the system.

    Can anyone help?

are those sata3 ports? if so have you installed the sata3 drivers? best to use port0 for os hdd,sta port 4/5 for any sata dvd drives

p.s. you might have to disable sata3 in the bios for it to recognize sata2 drives in ports 3-6

    Hi there

    Thanks for the reply.

The ports are labelled on the MB as SATA2, so Im thinking they arent SATA3

    Any other ideas?

    The Blue for OS etc?

I tried the old drive (250GB) in the ports as well....no dice.

Tried different cables, power supply connectors etc.

yes blue for os,i think amd are same as intel boards, the grey/white ones are marvell ports, and blue are intel ports, tried to clear the cmos by removing mb battery for 30mins? make note of any oc/bios settings beforehand as it will wipe them

The SATAII connector colors won't matter here, unless you are mistaken on the motherboard model number. The GA-MA790GPT-UD3H only has one SATAII controller. It is in the AMD SB750 chipset.

You stated the old drive works on SATAII_1 what about SATAII_0? Is the new drive when on SATAII_0 and SATAII_1 show up?
Are the Integrated Peripherals set up in BIOS as follows? Please dont change it yet just let us know first. Did you check the SATAII DATA connectors They suggest you use the L shaped, and also the HDD power connectors to see if they are producing the correct power?
