Hey guys, pretty new here, but I thought I'd upload some pics of my ~1 month old rig (pics from when I first put it together):

I really need some of those dust filters though, its sooo dusty inside after only a month!

I've never heard of the HX series causing coil whine? Is this a common problem guys? Is it limited to i7 and X58 chipsets or have there been cases on P55 and other i5/i3 boards?

I say this out of curiousity as I have the 750W version an it's been the best PSU I've ever owned. I've enabled and disabled C states on my P45-UD3P and this P55A-UD4 and haven't heard any whine (thank god). I would definitely have returned it and gotten something else as any electrical whining or high pitched buzzing drives me nuts.

The TX models are good, however I do recall Jonny Guru stating that the design is pushed to the max in its 850W version and shows some strange stability anomolies compared to the 750W one. I beleive to help remedy this, Corsair installed a custom regulation stablizing board with a couple of solid caps in later TX 850's. When I say issues I mean when analysed using specialist equipment, not that PC's have crashed because of it or anything.

I know each to their own and all that Wazza but if I had your sweet system I'd not let your current PSU anywhere near it. a 1050W PSU that only costs 40 IMO is a scary thought. What have they skimped on to get the cost down that high? Not saying that you'll have any problems with it however... I hear loads of things like "My PSU has been stable for ages and powers the PC fine", well it will do that until maybe one day the thing could blow up. PSU's don't deteriorate in any noticable visual or tactile way when they're dodgy, they just let go. I couldn't take the risk of a 40 piece of kit wrecking a grand's worth of parts. I would also bet my house and my girlfriend that if rigged up to a PSU loading/testing machine (especially if in a heat chaimber) the PSU would get no where near the 1050W rating, unfortunately.

EDIT*** Found some cases of that PSU letting go. Here's a link to one: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...10-burned-help

Any way, sorry for the off topic. I'll post a few pics of my new i5 rig soon. I need to take photo's of my old kit (two HD4850's, an E7400, 4GB of DDR-1066 and an EP45-UD3P). I just need to tidy it all up first as it was assembled in an excited frenzy.

yeah the H5870 Lightning II! These things are extremely quiet compare to the two H5770 in full load. So far I have them all in maximum settings with 1920 x 1080 and core clock at 930MHz. Been playing COD MW with FPS in mid 100ish. I can tell you that the cards are way smoother than the 5770s. Besides, I like this design much more than the reference design. They are just nice to look at anyway

I got them from Newegg last week. They were $399 a piece plus $30 rebate

So far no issue with the HX1000W yet.

its only very slight when you have headphones on and turned up loud, otherwise it silent and yh ive read about this psu going pop,but this model is a newer version, ive had it running nearly 24 hours a day for around a year 5 months now n its been fine, ill probably upgrade when i can but so far its good apart from slight whine in some game menus not all just in crysis
