Exclamation Gigabyte (g31m-es2l) problem with ram?? Idk wont really boot or post...

Hello, I'm new to the forums here at tweaktown... but, I have a problem with the G31M-ES2L. It wont go past the first screen you see, the one that shows the Processor infor and bios version. But, I cant press F12 or del. to enter bios and i thought it was the psu... (thermaltake 430w) but its not. I'm running onboard graphics and Intel Quad core i think Q8600 but im not sure. The RAM IS THE PROBLEM I THINK... its PC2-4200 and it only supports PC2-5300 and PC2-6400. So my question is... will it post and run well with this ram? <TABLE class=vi-is1 border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=4>

what keyboard are you using? a usb or ps2? as for ram i dont know mybe someone else will advise on that,if your using a usb keyboard you may need to try with a ps2 one to get into the bios and enable usb keyboard, then you will be able to press delete/f12,again it could be a ram problem

Yes I will Vote for the RAM as the Culprit. Did you let the machine boot two to three times and then see if it will finnally boot up after these first two to three failed boots? Sometimes Gigabyte boards need a few boot and fails before it will boot up. Also give you RAM Brand too it helps. :) Also which Board Revision do you have???? 1 - 2.0 or 2.3 ??

    I don't think there is a Q8600 processor.
If it's a PC2-4200 and a processor with default bus speed 33MHz than it may be a problem.
Please try to find out exactly what processor you are using and a link to your ram specs or part number.

PC2-5300 is the minimum for your processor/board, with not much difference in price it might be worth getting PC2-6400.
It will be best if you can loan PC2-5300/6400 to verify there is no other problem.
