you could try one or two lower uncore freq, that will use less qpi/vtt voltage,or one or two clicks up on qpi pll

I am getting close to stable I believe that these other volts when overclocking past certain amount become a key role thereafter.

Any chance you could recap your stable 4.5 settings?

I'm looking to finally push my X58A-UD9 to a justifiable OC for the hardware. I have the 980x and 2000 Mhz RAM.

Seems like whatever I use, Prime95 will crater at 4.5

    Thanks,

BTW: A digital camera on a tripod works great to capture screenshots of the BIOS on a LCD screen.

I have a H50 Corsair water cooler on the CPU. It does a decent job.

Well, here's a screenshot that shows the first attempt at using the settings mentioned above. I post and boot without error, but again, if I fire up PRIME95, I get a bluescreen before temps can even begin to really rise.

For the voltages listed above, where a range was suggested, I selected a middle-of-the-road option.

Any suggestion on what I should push or change?

(BTW: Tooltray temps are GPUs, not MB chipset, etc)

what qpi/vtt voltage did you use? try one or two clicks more, did you catch any blue screen error codes? 000124 means not enough qpi voltage and 0000101 not enough cpu voltage

QPI/VTT 1.39 is what I used. I bumped it to 1.435, but it still locked in Prime95 after about 5 seconds and bluescreened. It said STOP 0x00000101

I guess CPU voltage is the issue. I suppose I could lower QPI/VTT down to 1.39 again...

    CPU I have 1.45

What do you think is a safe upper on the CPU voltage for 4.5Ghz?

did you enable loadline calibration? what uncore freq did you set? you could try one or two clicks lower to use less voltage,as for cpu voltage you can afford to try a few clicks more take vdroop into account + you could even lower qpi/vtt more

    Default Re: i7 980x & GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0)

    Here's what I have now:

Turbo, and all the Intel Power Saving and auto-clocking features are disabled.

    CPU Clock 27
QPI Clock 44 (QPI Link 7.34)
    UnCore Clock 18 (Freq 3006)
    BCLK 167
    Memory Multi - 10
    PCI Express Freq 100
    CPU Click Drive 800
    PCI Express Clock Drive 900

    Load Level - Level 1
    CPU Volt - 1.46 (CPU-Z says 1.440) & 1.475 (CPU-Z says 1.440) * 1.5 (CPU-Z says 1.472)
    QPI - 1.39
    CPU PLL 1.84
    PCIE 1.5
    QPI PLL 1.2
    IOH Core 1.180
    ICH I/O 1.5
    ICH Core 1.14
    DRAM 1.64

With both the first two CPU voltages, I still bomb with a 101 bluescreen pretty quickly.

1.5v on CPU, it seems to run a good while longer, but my core temps teeter into the 90ish range after a few mins at 100%. Also, it still bluescreens eventually, but not due to heat, I don't believe, since it never get above 92ish.

Anyway, any suggestions on a way to drop the CPU voltage a bit? I can't believe I would need to go above 1.5v on the CPU to get stable at 4.5Ghz.

In the Voltages area, it shows what I select, but on the BIOS Status screen, it shows what CPU-Z shows - a lower voltage.

While Prime95 seems to kill the machine after a bit, for normal use, it seems stable enough. I can run and complete 3D Mark 06 and Vantage, and a couple of hour of play in Mafia II was flawless, without lockup, and a max temp of 71c.

Still, if Prime95 fails, it doesn't pass my test.
