Looks good.maybe check out stuff like

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts...d[4291]=on

Its like the nvid 280 is still as good as any if there was no dx 11.I think the 285 and 5850 in the linked chart are standard clock also.

There is the gainward gs 470 tested in the article, will that (Go Like Hell) overclock?
The gx card /chip producers are probably wining and dining the games manufacturers to produce games that will make people upgrade.
The gx card producers want sli/x fire for profit.
The cpu/board manufacturers want to wean the last die hard 775 cpu(upgrader folks) on to i3/i5/i7 for profit.
There is the usual "improve your experience and productivity guff",but lets be honest hi end pc gx is all about gaming, aside from all the artists :).

Cutting the cynicism: gtx 285 is like the peak of nvid single gpu performance(as far as I know)
gtx 470/480 seems like as good ,maybe a little better for dx 10.
That leaves u really shafted on all the cool dx 11 stuf out there( that was a j/k btw)

For me It feels like the single gx card 460gtx is the best I can do on my 775 cpu system.

Yeh I know with my mbrd I cant run sli .
Its a personal feeling for gaming /overall performance (and if I already had a gtx 285, id be looking at x 58 sli mbrd/i7 920,930 6gb ram and probably a 800w+ psu) cos thats the way were being pushed.

470 graphics card still seems expensive (to me),unless the price drops a lot.
Then too a 1366 system is probably more expensive again as an upgrade ,and it isnt an upgrade unless its overclocked .
My V8 cpu cooler came with a 1366 adapter plate so Im all set with big savings !

There is the ebay factor.if u can unload your gtx 285 for not a lot less than a 460 cost you might be good .

you dont need to spend much to put a 1366 socket system together if you shop around, i think i spent less than 500 on cpu/mb and ram,my psu cost 45 new off ebay a cheapo brand, expensive units dont always mean the best,i wouldnt go for 1156 as they arnt supported as good as 1366 with newer sandybridge chips coming out plus they rob pci-e bandwidth if your using sli and sata3/usb3,you probably have no need or want to upgrade im just saying

Well unfortnatley, I just nabbed my latest mobo just 3 months back. Had some gift cards to use and got a REALLY good deal.

    Mobo + Cooler = 89 bucks.

That and the G.Skill 4GB kit was another 90 bucks.

My prior board was intel and older. G33 chipset.. Couldnt OC my E8400.

I like my current setup.. I dont feel like my CPU is holding me back at the moment :P When that happens Ill look elsewhere.

1.Your system in sig seems good as it is
2.All the fancy new gx cards ,the ones that have appeared in the last 8 months, what can we use them on for dx 11?
3.Around January this year I was going to go for a sapphire 5850 it was $230 approx, but then the prices started to go up!.
4.I like the "heaven unigine" benchmark and occt gpu test because the " futuremark " stuff seems to have "sold out to the cpu/gx manufacturers",Its all recommendations of what to buy next so that u can reach the ideal system.
5.Toms hardware .like the comparison I linked only shows a standard gtx 285,with ocllk there might be only a $10 price/performance difference.
6.A gtx 470 especially overclocked might push your psu too?

All I mean is, my system with a gtx 285 instead of gt 9600gt.I would have just kept the 285 atm or maybe ebayed it to see how much the dx11 price diff would be.
My 9600gt is like $60 new if u can find one. Ebay its worth $40 maybe?,not worth the hassle, It will go on my older pc.
Gtx 285 might still be worth $ .. I dont know and Im too lazy to check, but it seems so good id try and work out which 400 card is a big upgrade for u on the system and sell the 285 fast before it seems old.

    I hear ya.

Like you guys pointed out. Im gonna hold off a bit longer. See if prices drop or new hardware comes out. My system isnt holding me back at the moment with the games I play. It just that damn upgrade bug that seems to appear randomly from time to time!!

Aye, unless you plan on really getting into GTA4, then your Dual Core will be perfect for everything, especially at 4GHz +. Will it bottleneck your planned GPU? (GTX 460 or 470).... Yes, no CPU available atm has enough juice to fully take advantage of an SLI setup of these cards and even in singles, there's still a marked FPS rise when clocking a i7 from 4ghz to 4.4GHz.

GTA is the only game that really takes full advantage of a Quad (or sextuple) CPU. For example I tried my card OC'd to 850/4400 in my brother's Q6600 @ 3.4GHz and it soundly beat my 3.9GHz quad in FPS to the tune of around 15 on the average and up to 25 on peak FPS at times. Really added to the smootheness.

I had considered getting a cheap Q9550 off ebay, but the problem is they AREN'T cheap, costing the same as a entry lvl i5, which is just silly.

Personally I'd stick with the 460, get one to start with then when you upgrade grab another one for some 5970 beating SLI action. There really isn't anything better in terms of value. The 5770 and 5830 are good, very good but atm the 460 is imense.

As you can see, opinions vary, but seriously, if any card you buy soesn't have a full coverage heat sink, make sure to buy a cheap set of stick on sinks. Some aren't bothered but personally I don't like the idea of a component being so hot it could boil water. I've spent loads of time tuning cooling/noise/performance so skimping on a couple of bits of aluminium seems strange to me... oh well...

Upgrade bug's hit me too. As much as I love my slick looking Lian-Li, it's time to grab something with a bit more cooling potential. This might even make 900MHz stable on my 460: Scan.co.uk: RC-692-KKN2 - Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced, Black, Mid Tower Case w/o PSU

I considered a HAF, which are great for temps, however just the look of it makes me want to cut out my eyes with a blunt knife... ugly as sin!

what about the i3 530 chip? supposed to outperform a q6600 and ive seen them hit 4.4ghz on air,mb's are cheap too around 60-80 and 89 for the chip, gta 4 runs bad on any setup, jerky i think its the coding, tales from liberty city runs better,if u have 2 460s in sli it would run hotter imo than one 5970 but i am an ati fan hehe

Yeah swapping mobo's is out of the question. Im more then content with mine. If anything, Ill just drop in a Q9550 and OC to 3.8Ghz. Since I know memory and board are more then stable up to a 450 FSB ;)

Right now, my little E8400 is trucking along just fine. Plus more and more is being offloaded onto these insane GPU's these days.

Id rather drop a little more coin into a better GPU then go through the trouble of rebuilding my entire rig and reinstalling my OS.. ect blah blah blah :P
