    Cool Video card ! Help

Well I'm an Nvidia fanboy. Specially since the release of the GTX460's.

I'm either going with the Gainward 460 GS GLH eidtion, Or the Gainward 470 GS edition. Seen below:

My only concern, I'm running a dual core. Granted its decently over-clocked.. Will this be an issue?

I just can't decide. Both cards have their pro's and cons. Ones 240 bucks the other is 350.

I game at 1650x1050 and I enjoy maxing out all settings including AF & AA.

Currently playing BC2 in which I can max out already. But like we all get, I have the upgrade bug. New titles coming up, GuildWars 2 which I might try. Among other new FPS titles and that new SWTOR MMO.

Just looking for opinions. Could my rig hand either of those cards? OR would the cpu bottleneck it too much? Rig in Sig.

    Thanks :)

Well considering the Gainward 460 GS GLH card cost 240.00 bucks.
The ATI 5850 cost 310.00 and the Gainward 460 GS GLH is on par if not better in most benchmarks.

I think Ill lean more towards the cheaper "better" preforming card :P

I just didnt know if the GTX470 would be too much for my rig. Due to my Dual Core.

You will have absolutely no issues with a 460 or 470 on your current setup.

Sure, upgrading to an i7 @4GHz with 6GB of fast DDR3 would improve things, but ONLY in CPU limited games (GTA4, WoW etc). Most current games are console ports and so are much more GPU dependant.

I know I'm a bit of a Gigabyte fanboy, but seriously and impartially, considder the Gigabyte GTX 460. The cooler is freakin awesome. This is the only card I have ever bought where I'm not planning on changing the cooling due to noise or lack of performance. It's so quiet, even up to 80% and after that, at 100%, all you can hear is the powerful whoosh of air, no motor noise at all. It comes clocked to 715/1800 out of the box and with the help of MSI Afterburner and its GPU voltage control, I'm running mine at 900/2000 easily with 1.087V. At this speed it simply wipes the floor with the 5830 (closest price wise since they upped the price of the 5850) and competes well with a stock to moderately OC'd 5850.

The real charm of these cards however is SLI. Two of these will beat any single GPU card in existence and will be up there (varies depending on the game) with the 5970, perhaps a touch slower at super high res with ~8X AA +. The performance to price ratio of an SLI setup of 460's is just superb. IMO it makes the 480 a rich man's luxury and defeats the object of the GTX 465 completely.

If there are any games you want me to benchmark, I can do so for you. As I have a dual core CPU, our results should be comparable, give or take 5% or so.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply :)

Due to how much cheaper the 460 is over the 470, and in terms of power consumption/heat. I am more so leaning towards a 460 at the moment.

    As far as benchmarking.

    3DMark06
    3DMark Vantage (gpu)
FFXIV Benchmark ( both low & high ) if possible

^Id be curious to see your results with those benchmarks. More so to compare to my current rig.

Again thank you for your reply,

Gainward's customer service department is based in China. They won't sport a lifetime guarantee like Evga and XFX. I'd steer clear on Gainward and Diamond Multimedia big-time.

I couldn't get the FF 14 benchmark to run propperly. The thing started fine but ran with a black screen after the opening credits. Apparently others have had that issue too, so I'm sure there won't be a problem with the full game.

I've done a quick bench of far Cry 2 instead. It's a GPU limited game, like FF14 probably will be, so it'll give you some idea.

Definitely agree with getting the Gigabyte card. It's worth the extra $10-20. You'd spend 3 times that making the Gainward as cool and quiet as the Gigabyte Card. You also get the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, Gigabyte will sort it out no matter ther country you live in, and in a decent amount of time. It's never good having to ship an RMA half way across the world.

    Those scores are perfectly acceptable.

A single HD4850 will fetch ~7000 points in Vantage, so double the performance @ 15k is bang on. Same with 3dmark 06, with 2 4850's scoring 20K, 17k for a single card is good.

Note that a stock clocked HD5850 (a card that costsú50 more) will only fetch about 12.5-13.5k in Vantage. The 460 is intended to compete with the 5770 and 5830, and when clocked at stock it performs similarly. When over clocked it beats them by a noticable margin.
