    Default Dead GA-890FXA-UD5?

    Hey people -

About 2 or 3 months ago I built a PC based on the Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5.
    Other parts are: AMD Phenom II x4 3.2Ghz / 2x2 G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 DDR3 / HIS HD 5770 / Corsair 650W
The computer functioned well for almost 2 months, when it suddenly got really slow and shut down. Never got it started back up. Every time I turned on the computer, it would give me repeated long beeps, and no display.

I spent a very long time trying to diagnose the problem - ruled out the graphics card by trying another card and also trying my card in both slots - ruled out any peripherals by bread boarding - ruled out the memory by trying all 16 possible combinations of the RAM and also trying a friends Patriot 1333 RAM - ruled out the PSU by swapping it and also trying this one in another machine.

I also RMA'd the board to Gigabyte, who sent me back the exact same board with the exact same problems.

Only things possibly left would be the CPU or the motherboard. It's highly improbably the CPU, which basically leaves the mobo.

The journey through all this is pretty much documented in this tomshardware forum thread: Long Repeated Beeps on Gigabyte Mobo - Gigabyte - Motherboards-Memory

I was referenced here by Jaquith on tomshardware, who told me to ask for Lsdmeasap.

I would be highly disappointed if Gigabyte did indeed not even test my board and just sent it back, wasting weeks of my time and the shipping costs for both of us.

If they did test it and found it to be functional, what else could possibly be causing the problem? Should I send in the board a second time and ask again for a replacement?

I am sure they tested it before sending it back to you, so it's not the board.

Sending it back may get you a charge for No Trouble Found (NTF), and if they did that they wouldn't be giving you another board but rather a $$ charge instead, so that might not be the best thing to do. If you do want to try, I would call in directly first and explain and see what they have to say

Can you borrow another CPU to test with? How about another PSU as well.

And yes, please do as Artdrivers mentioned too

I've followed this over from TomsHardware cause I'm suffering the same issue. But, I have a qwuestion about DualBios. What is supposed to be on the CD that you use for "last-chance" recovery? I've tried 5-10 different combos of programs, BIOSes and autoexec.bat files. Is that what it's supposed to be? Is something missing?

have you touched the chip at all? i mean removed it since installing it? try re-seating the chip and heatsink and makesure its not over-tightened,you still could have a faulty cpu

I'm not sure about the OP, but I have reseated the CPU and checked both the socket and pins. I plan to test the CPU in another motherboard in a little while and see what happens.

In order for this to work you need to remove ALL other hard drives, CD drives, ECT except the one CD Drive. Connect that to the first SATAII port SATAII_0 or the IDE Cable as master if you have an IDE CD Drive.

If that does not work for you and you had a bad flash and need help recovering send me a PM and I will show you how you can recover without a RMA.

Already tried another PSU with my board, and tried the PSU I have on another board.
Cleared CMOS several times, both ways (jumpers and reset cmos button).

Absolutely the only thing left to do would be try another CPU, but it will be very hard and a hassle to get another one.

wait to see how zedd gets on,he said he was going to try with another cpu,if it turns out to be that then it gives you a clearer sign on what component is faulty
