    Default EP45-DS3L Q9550 Can't get stable past 450fsb

I can't get stable past 450fsb no matter what I try. I am able to get into windows at 4ghz. (471fsb) at roughly 1.3625 vcore but temps are an issue.. esp in LinX. I ran OCCT for an hour and passed without errors. But in LinX my Gflops drop off after the first pass and the core temps drop 10-12c even though they are still at 100% load. Temps are 77 77 72 72 in LinX. OCCT temps barely reach 70c. I'm beginning to think I need to tweak more of the advanced settings that I have no clue what they do. Or I'm at the limit of my board.

    Here's my current settings.

I don't think you those clock skews not that high anyway, MCH Core may be a bit high too (maybe not.)
Can you post MemSet SPD (click spd) screen capture?

Try memory timings 5-6-6-17 all advanced on auto, and Static tRead 10, driving strength 1066 both channels, drop CPU ratio to 8 and run your tests. Try 1.26-1.3 VTT, then maybe tweak the CPU and/or MCH refences.

Thanks for the reply Chike. As far as the clock skews go it took me a better half of a week to figure out what combo I needed to get stable at 450fsb.. otherwise I couldn't even boot into windows without them.

    Heres the screenshot.

I'm going to try what you suggested and go from there to see what happens. Should I be worried about not being LinX stable? If I can get OCCT or Prime stable I think that should be good enough?

The ds3 may not clock as well as ud3,but:
As chilke was saying the memory timing.
450 fsb in and around there seems to be a problem spot for a few on ud3 at least.
What fsb speed is shown on the ds3 board ,ud3 shows 1600mhz
For my Gskills 4-4-4-12 will only work up to 900mhz or 450x 2 just..
Anything above that really needs 5-5-5-15.
Then again the memory wont work above 1020mhz reliably at all.

What fsb speed /cpu ref did you have to start using a 2.00 multiplier for the memory?

these are settings ive used for awhile ,on ud3 tho.
775 quads and duals at hi fsb on ep-45 ud3

More recently people seem to be using a higher cpu voltage and a lower mch one.
For me around 450 fsb and below I could get away with a much lower mch and cpu voltage.

for 9550 clocking check older posts by conners and acebmxer, they have moved on to other cpu's now
Check posts by Prof Jim for a higher fsb in general.
775 dual cpu people seem to use around 450 fsb and below with higher multipliers
4ghz or maybe 4.1 seems to be a cpu limit,450 fsb is a problem area for some ,then a third area is around 500 cpu ref(2000 fsb).
Most of the responses will be on ud3 boards ,not many on ds3 .tho there was a thread started in the last couple of weeks on ds3.

There isnt that much forum action on the 45 chipset anymore.

occt lin test and more especially the psu test in it will give really hi temps.1.36v isnt excessive (if you need it) and most need that much for 4ghz
You should be able to pass the lin/ibt tests tho as well as occt/prime.temps up around 80c wouldnt be uncommon on cpu heat tests ,much more than that would be a worry.
Shouldnt you be on vista sp2 by now,it was a big upgrade, some say win 7 is vista sp3

The board shows it's capable of 1600fsb. As far as the 2.00D goes I can use either the 333mhz strap or 400mhz for 450fsb. I just passed 20 linx runs using the 2.40b multiplier. So my ram is running around 1080 at the 450fsb. I have to use the 2.00D if I want to attempt to boot at 4ghz. I'll try your settings before work tomorrow to see if it nets me anything but it seems like to reach 4ghz is more of a hassle than what it's worth. I think to get stable lies in the combination of CPU term / ref / mch / ref voltages. I still haven't found the right combo after 2 years of trying.

I am on sp2. My signature is a bit dated ;) I have yet to figure out why my gflops drop and my times sky rocket in linx at 4ghz. Core temps drop 10 - 12c and still are at 100% load. Some say I'm throttling but temps never went over 78c

Driving strength profiles set may help a lot, try setting both to memory speed or one above the speed you are using. If close to the lower value use it, meaning if you are running 820Mhz use 800 instead of 1066, but if running 900-950Mhz use 1066 setting.

More Vtt might help you bring down your MCH voltages too.

A fan on the NB might help too, especially if you have not changed the stock thermal paste.

Hi guys, I tried a few of Kick's settings but it didn't work out for me. As well as setting the driving strength profiles. No change. I'm debating if I'm at the limit of my board. I'm going to bump up the fsb 1 notch at a time and see where exactly it craps out at.

As of right now this is passed 20 passes of LinX CPU-Z Validator 3.1

    How's things going?

Have you tried adjusting MCH Ref at all? If not please see the link in my signature for how to properly adjust. Then try .68-.74, Then if no luck .78-.84, do this with more Vtt then you had been using, but be sure you read the link otherwise you wont set it correctly

Thanks for the reply. I have tried changing mch refs in the past. But I'll give it another go. I have been busy with work so I haven't gotten a chance to dedicate a decent amount of time to this. Friday is the day I'll be able to sit down and lay down the volts on this board. I'll report back on my results. Wish me luck.

I hear ya, there's always something in between us and out computers :)

    Good luck with the testing!
