Those are nice timings for 1600Mhz anyway, between 1600 and 2000 (Settings aside) there is only about 3-4% increase in performance anyway.

yeah, I was quite impressed, they were similar to the ddr 2 settings I was using on my old system

I backed off the timings a bit for 24/7 use to 9-9-9-27 but I found in games they were not stable, even at the super laggy 10-10-10-30 I get blue screens, so I have allot more tweaking to do and a raid drive to rebuild, lol
ah well, we live and learn eh

Sorry to hear you had such issues, sounds like maybe some voltages were off or something else because looser timings shouldn't be causing you more issues or instability.

well, a few days at 4.2 ghz was fun.. now it wont boot above stock, so I think the chip I have is just a horrible overclocker or when I booted with 2000 mhz memory settings it degraded it quite badly, either way, I think i'll have to replace it soon

so, basically in my experience here is, i5 + high imc frequency = very bad! lol
the phrase 'don't try this at home' springs to mind

try fully clearing the cmos it could be corrupted if its crashed recently, make a note of oc settings and leave mb battery out overnight then put back in and load optimized defaults,i dont think its the chip

Ya I doubt you damaged the chip at all!

Clear your CMOS and start over, you'll be fine

Ok, thanks for the tip! ill try that now I guess it is possible I corrupted some settings when I manually switched off the pc, it hung during a reboot.. and memtest told me my cpu was running at 4.8 ghz afterwards, so maybe it wasn't lying afterall!

well that worked a treat, thanks guys I am now wondering if a corrupted cmos option was stopping me over-clocking in the first place, as it seems even more stable now.. :D

Great to hear everything is back in order now!!

You can keep BIOS profiles, so you can test various setting ranges if you want. On the MAIN page of the BIOS F11 is save, and F12 is load, you can store up to 8 profiles.
