interesting info profjim. thanks for that info. i can run that tomorrow or so. it would be nice to know if anything is hiding. chike i might hold off on setting the timing that way only because getting stuck in a boot loop doesn't sit well with me right now. crucial gave me the timing numbers so i'm inclined to go with them. i have to digest that process a bit

Static tRead Value is actually chipset settings not the memory.
So are you with 4-4-4-12 DDR-800?
You can try to change Performance Enhance to turbo instead and see if that give you better results.

You'll probably find that tRD = 6 at 333MHz is as low as you can go with a P45/P43 chipset.
My P35 mobo is fully stable with tRD = 5 at 333MHz and memory speeds from 800 - 1100MHz.
With your current settings, 4-4-4-10 will probably be stable.
Keep in mind that you'll need to repeat your extended stability testing each time you tweak your bios.
If you're going to overclock your cpu, don't bother right now with maximizing your memory timings.
Are your primary memory timings set to 4-4-4-12 right now? Inquiring minds want to know.

**edit** Chike is asking if your primary memory timings are set to 4-4-4-12 and if you're memory speed is 800MHz.
The cpu-z Memory tab will show your current primary timings and the DRAM Frequency should say 400MHz where 400 x 2 = 800MHz memory speed.

    5 for DDR-800 CL4 or DDR-1066 CL5.
    But it's a P35 board.

No they're not. the timings are at 5-5-5-18. don't quote me on the 18 though since i'm not at the desktop. i was given these settings by crucial when i got the memory. what happened was i had 2 gb of rma then decided a few years later(last week) to get 2 gb more. i had all sorts of problems because the voltages between the 2 sets were different so they took back the old and sent me a matching set. the tech guys at crucial gave me those settings. that's the extend of my knowledge on timings. i'm still not sure how to set it or if i need to set it.

Thanks for the correction, you're right, he has a P35 mobo.
His system will probably be stable with tRD (Static tRead Value) = 5.

@RonB, make sure that you use the same tRD value for both memory channels (A & B).

ok. i saw on the memset that there were 2 channels i guess you'd call it. i have to look at that again and be sure. if they're both at 5 then i don't care to change them. Just curious but why would the tech guys say i need one setting and another is better? i guess i may know that answer but i'm picking brains here

Crucial tech support gave you safe (conservative) settings.
Post #33 shows you what you need to change for 4-4-4-12 primary memory timings.
You'll need to manually set tRD = 5 if the bios defaulted to a higher value.
My P35-DS3L has only one tRD setting that covers both memory channels.
