    Default New Machine: GA-X58 UD3R -f6 / Xeon w3520 Processor - OC Help?

    Mobo: GA-X58 UD3R -f6
    Processor: Xeon Quad w3520
    RAM: 12 (2x6) Crucial DDR3 1333
    HDD: 3, eSata 500gb Drives (7200)
Video: GeForce 9800 GT 1024 GPU
    OS: OSX 10.6

I'm going to use this as a second audio production machine and am looking to OC it, but at the same time: keep temps as low as possible. Because the program I am running is processor and ram intensive, I am thinking I'll need to switch to some other kind of processor cooling - it is currently set up with a stock fan. Running the machine right now (by itself) yields 64c degree temps - under full load: 76c-80c

First: where to start with OC'ing?

    - I can remove some RAM - down to 8gb if this will give me better performance.

    Second: what for processor cooling?
    - Would like suggestions for better cooling (liquid?)

I have several screen shots that I can post along with a GeekBench PDF. I assume this would be helpful, but did not want to overcrowd, or use up to much of the Tweaktown bandwidth in posting that many images. Is it ok?

Any other thoughts you may have would be appreciated once again.

Thank you for your kindness, and your time. Both are very valuable.

Yes, I am at 3.2Ghz this moment.

I would REALLY like to get the best CPU cooler out there. Is that your recommendation, or is there one that is even cooler?

PS. How do my screens look to you wazza300?

the Noctua NH-D14 supposed to be a little better but its a dual heatsink and its huge, imo i think the prolematech megahalems is the best choice, just google the reviews on it,screens/settings look ok,have you tried with cpu voltage set to the normal setting? what ram speed does 8x system memory multiplier(spd) give you? you could try closer to 1333mhz,and set pci-e #1 as first initial display as its set to pci,qpi/vtt voltage looks fine on auto with 1.175v

dont forget to order some fans, two are best in push/pull with 4pin and you can use a splitter and connect the two to the cpu fan header,or 3 pin fans but they wont speed up/slow down according to cpu temp,i think fans 1500-1900rpm are the best as they are silent any higher and they sound like a tornado, its up to you just do some research before you buy,i have an akasa 1700rpm fan on mine set to 1500rpm and its silent,i hit 79c on hottest core at 100% cpu load/4.2ghz and 36-39c at idle,my cooler isnt as good as yours so expect better temps, dont skimp on thermal paste either,a good quality brand like mx2 or tx2 will improve temps

Shoot, I am certain you mentioned this cooler not coming with fans - and I forgot to get them. Can I use this cooler (with better results than my stock fan) until I get the fans I need? Or should I wait - get the fans, attach them to the cooler and then install the whole thing?

My apologies if my questions seem amateur ..

the intel fan is moulded into the heatsink so you wont be able to use that, any 120mm fans will do temporary until you buy two matching fans with 4pin connections and an akasa fan splitter to enable you to attach 2 fans to one cpu fan header on the mb
