Default Higher temps with more memory?

    Hi,

I recently installed 3x2Mb more memory in my UD5 system (total of 12 Mb now) and it seems my cpu temps went up from 34C to 40C (idle mode).

    Is that normal?

it will need more qpi/vtt voltage and slightly more cpu voltage with 12gb,do you have qpi/vtt and cpu voltage set to auto?

Everything in bios is standard: so I have to check but I guess all is set on auto

you might be able to lower qpi/vtt and cpu voltage if you set them manually as auto will overvolt these and higher temps, set dram voltage manually too according to ram spec, either 1.66v or 1.5v

Sadly this is the price you pay for the 12 GB, the extra 6 GB is really stressing the systems overclock and requires higher volts. It depends what your priorities are but i tend to really need my 12 GB ( and could do with more) so i accept that to run the 12 GB i must up my volts and maybe take a slightly lower overclock. I am happy running at 4.16 with good temps ( sub 80 when doing my simulation work), I can run at 4.2 but volts and temps get a bit high and to be honest the extra 0.04 Ghz is not a big deal, running out of RAM is a big deal !!
